I'm listening to "The Death of J. B. Lenoir" on John Mayalls' Crusade album (1967).

Quote

"The Blues has lost a king"

John Mayall wrote and recorded two songs after J. B. Lenoir died tragically in a car accident when he was 38 : "The death of J. B. Lenoir" and ""I'm Gonna Fight for You, J. B."

If you watch and listen to "John Mayall - I'm Gonna Fight For You J.B. (1970)" on YouTube, you'll see three interesting things. First, the "lead guitarist" is playing a nylon string classical guitar. Second, the parts what would be traditionally be played on harmonica are being played by a sax player (Howlin Wolf did this as well). And third, in both songs, Mayall mispronounces Lenoir's last name.

I'm enjoying a DVD of Terry and the Pirates performing live in 1983 on the German Rockpalast TV show. The lineup was Terry Dolan (vocals, guitar), John Cipollina (guitar), David Hayes (bass), Nicky Hopkins (piano), and Greg Elmore (drums).

The audio and video are superb. I'd never seen close-up shots of Cipollina's guitar technique, so it came as a surprise to see that he used over-the-finger picks on thumb and forefinger. The video also highlighted his distinctive tremolo-arm vibrato.

What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare.

You go to a rock concert and the first song, usually, sets the tone for the rest of the concert. If that song is a banger, and you came to be completely blown away, then you are in the right place.

AKB48 is the largest all girl pop idol group in the world (you only see about 20 of the 153 girls then in the group in this video). They own the clubs that they entertain in in Japan and in half a dozen asian countries. During the summer they will go on a stadium tour and they will fill stadiums.

This video is from 2009, when AKB48 was big, but not yet HUGE.

And this video is from 2015, when the group was HUGE and paid a surprise visit to a high school.  Skip to 2:27 for the payoff (if you're wondering about the crown the one girl is wearing, it's not an ornament, she is the "General Manager"-in charge of all the dancers, makes schedules, deals with issues, etc.).

Currently enjoying some awesome guitar playing by Justin Johnson.
I've picked up a few of his CD's and have not been disappointed.

I've never heard of him -- thanks for the recommendation!

I just spent a while over on YouTube listening to him. I especially liked this one:
