Off the new album with Johnny Depp on the drums and Guitar

Marilyn Manson feat Johnny Depp - You're So Vain

I've never been a fan of Marilyn Manson's music (okay, I hate it), but this cover is amazing. And is there anything Johnny Depp can't do?

Glad you liked it Barb. I gave the new album a listen today and this really stood out as a good cover. I always liked the original and the LA Guns cover is also great. I heard that one last night while mowing the lawn.

There was a SoCal punk all-star band (their lead guitarist was Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters) in the late 90s and early 00s called Me First and the Gimme Gimmes that exclusively performed covers. The cool thing about them is that they would cover anything -- pop, classic rock, country, love songs, you name it -- and they possessed a spirit of gleeful anarchy that made their songs funny and serious at the same time.

They did a blistering cover of "You're So Vain," but I can't find it on YouTube. Instead, here's one of my favorites:

This is a great thread, I love cover versions where artists find something completely different in a song than the original artists did. I love Kate Bush and when I heard the Placebo version of "Running Up That Hill" it made me hear and think about the song in a completely different way - they found a dark, dangerous disturbing side to it.

(hope I've pasted the link right, new on here and first post in this thread)

There are a couple of sub-themes to this thread worth discussing: artists that specialise in or only do covers and albums of covers by various artists (often tribute albums). Any thoughts?

Sorry  GIA  ;D

I have mixed feelings about posting any Halestorm here for the pure fact of what was already posted. Halestorm put out a EP of just cover songs and this was a part of that EP. Now I have to say that I really like Halestorm and Lizzy can sing anything she wants.....

Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust [Bowie Cover]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTyePL5JvVI

"Bauhaus were an English rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. The group consisted of Peter Murphy (vocals), Daniel Ash (guitar), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). The band originally went by the name Bauhaus 1919, dropping the latter portion within a year of their formation. With their dark, gloomy sound and image, Bauhaus are generally considered the first gothic rock group."
