New Story Tag

I added a story last night.  I noticed this morning that the two stories added previous to mine have the "NEW" tag but mine doesn't.
Does the board software recognize that I'm posting a story I wrote some years ago or does the NEW tag mean the story comes from someone who has never posted a story before?

and how do you upload a picture directly into the message?  Other people do it all the time but I can't find an icon in this message editing box that will do it, and the "Attachments and other options" section just shows "return to this topic" and "don't use smileys"

And no, "insert image" did not work  - it just showed the blank area you're seeing here

The new tag is applied to all posts that you personally have not read yet, when you post a thread you are usually redirected to said thread, and it automatically gets read, thus it is not new to you.

For instance the thread you took a picture of, is new to me, since I have not read it yet

People can also mark things as read/not new, without entering the thread, by marking the forum they are in as read.

as for linking images, you should ask someone who does that, I never do, but I know it involves finding an image host that allows remote linking of images directly, so that they can show on other sites, and then one can use the image thing of the post editor to put in the image, most image hosts want to not give a direct image link but something else and that will not work.

Ahhhh!  Well that makes sense.  It never occurred to me that the tag was me-centric.

Can I get you to witness to my wife that I looked at something and it wasn't in a me-centric way?

You need to use an image host. I use postimages.org and have never had a problem. You can sign up for a free account, but even without doing that you can get a link to an image. Uploading the image is pretty straightforward, but you might want to look at this thread about using the correct link.

You can hit “quote” to see the html code used to do that.

Someone must have discovered that by trial and error; I just reuploaded the picture to pixhost, and the links pixhost offers me do not include the "img0" segment.  Anyway, thanks for suggesting the "Quote" approach to see what was behind the curtain.
