On July 26, 2019, Disney stock price was 144.65

On March 20, 2020 the stock price was 85.98 (start of the pandemic)

On March 12, 2021 the stock price was 197.16 (the company had recovered well from the pandemic)

On July 22, 2024 the stock price was 94.13

There are multiple reasons for the 50% decline in the past three years.

1) Star Wars shows have been bringing in less and less revenue. People want to be entertained, not get hit over the head with THE MESSAGE and be preached to by DEI hires about their beliefs and the public longs to go back to SW films that just told a story.

2) Movies. Disney lost one billion dollars with ten movies in a row. The uninitiated look at the box office revenue and say "See, the move made 225 million. It turned a profit." Yeah, but production costs were 150 million, then there is publicity, which cost another 150 million. And all of the studios (not just Disney) took a bath on the streaming wars.

3) In mid August, the D-23 convention (this is a BIG and VERY important convention) will be taking place at the convention center across the street from Disney's California Adventure. There is a strike by park employees looming, mostly over low wages, but some benfits as well.
Things aren't looking great at the house of mouse, but to their credit they are trying to fix some of it. Early last year, there was a HUGE hue and cry over the live action Snow White film. Rachel Ziegler, playing Snow White, is to blame for some of the hue and cry as she condescended about the movie having "woke" sensibilities in an interview. She must have been called on the carpet about her remarks as she speaks much differently about the movie now. In addition, much of the movie has been re-shot, wrapping up production (for the second time) just a couple of months ago.

Disney suffers from a combination of "The Emperors new clothes" syndrome and a distinct lack of creative talent. Being inclusive for inclusions sake does not a good story make. For decades Disney used the source material for a lot of wonderfully classic stories as birdcage liner. I get that you can't use the original story, if the main heroine commits suicide and turns into sea foam, but that doesn't mean you have to butcher the main point or moral of the story. I think the point South Park made when it lampooned Disney was right. Making a main character a different race, sexuality and ability ruins whatever story you were telling. I have no problem with a story where the main character is LBGTQ+, just as long as it is not forced to be the main point. Sure, make the main character gay or a lesbian, but don't make it the main focus of a story about space wizards versus space nazi's. Sooner or later people will get tired of it. And don't blame half your audience because they get tired of an agenda versus a good story. They did that with Captain Marvel, who was a B tier hero at best, that is until she fought Rogue in the comics and was put into a deep coma after rogue stolen her powers. The Eternals was bad all over the place, they just wiped out a pretty good story line and character development for a rainbow cast of characters that had little substance and nothing to back the story up with. How about they save themselves by making a story before they throw the entire diverse pot into it, then gradually add it in, but not losing focus on the story.

Disney went all in with streaming television. They did very well initially with the pandemic, but that whole segment of entertainment began falling apart in 2022. Disney  has been in retreat. It had absolutely nothing to do with a little brown skinned girl named Moana.  The fucking bigotry just astounds me.

Disney’s is selling off segments of it streaming business. It’s also going into the sports betting business with ESPN. That’s going to be their next big profit center. In addition, they’ve got a couple of big movies coming out second half of this year. Including another installment of Deadpool on July 26. He’s a white guy. Is that OK?

No one had a problem with Moana. She was factually correct for the story. But the problem lies with some of my dearest friends whom are not "White." There has been commentary from POC that share the same views as me. Look at where the story originates from. The little mermaid. My black friends could not stand the movie, because they grew up with a little white fish girl. Diversity for Diversity's sake isn't storytelling. Would people who cry foul and bigotry say the same thing if Disney white washed Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart, a movie adaptation? There would be a lot of very angry people who would have something to say about it. So why is it bigotry when a classically European story gets race swapped and someone says something about it? People cried foul at the "Racist Crows" of Dumbo, but yet forget that most of the art from African Americans at the time was a caricature of their own race.

Deadpool was white, so? I would raise the alarm if they made Storm, Luke Cage, Black Panther into anything other than what they were originally. In fact I will go one step further, and say the Iron Wars was a damned good comic saga, where Tony Stark assisted a black girl in college build her own damned Iron man suit.

My point was missed unfortunately.

I dont give a damned about the race of a character in a movie, as long as the point of the character is to move the story along, and not be shoehorned in to fill some sort of DEI quota. You literally had a ranking member of the Disney production team say in an interview that she was out to make Disney gay. My point is, I feel it is a crime to change something just for the sake of change that adds little to no value to the story.

Just like they tried to shoehorn Captain Marvel into the infinity saga movies. The directors said there was no room for her, despite the source material not even including her at all, and yet she shows up at the end of Endgame like she was going to be the savior of the universe. In the comics she was in a hospital in New York, permanently comatose. But the modern retcons to sell her movies and toys they brought her back, collapsing an entire character building storyline, nullifying Rogues entire character arc.

How would you feel if they remade Atticus Finch into a disabled lesbian? It doesn't make any sense.

Also there is a reason that they are trying to damage control, because Disney just had a string of flops because people are tired of the movies not being fun and entertaining anymore. You cant shove shit down peoples throats without them growing tired of it.

Look at my review of Dune Part 2. They literally chopped up the story to make Channi the lead character, when in the story she was a side character at most. She was connected to Stilgar, and when her role was done she quietly walked off until the end of the first book, which had her in the throne room to witness Paul's ascension.

You have wounded me, sir. I am so far from a bigot. I like good stories. I do not see the race of the characters, because most good stories do not make it an issue. Gay? don't care, Trans? So? It doesn't matter what they are, as long as they do the thing they are supposed to, without derailing the plot to make some social commentary. If I wanted to listen to a character gripe about society at large, I would pay for it. But If I pay to watch mindless action and men and women in tights doing shit I would never be able to, then thats what I want from my money, not some amped up diatribe.

Can you honestly sit there and call me a bigot for not liking reboots or remakes that take away from the story. I don't mind changes to the source, as long as the changes makes sense and fits the story. And turning a mermaid black, DESPITE her representing the RED SEA which would have made her Middle eastern/ Mediterranean and not white or black sits as well with me as changing the tribal shaman in "Things Fall Apart" into a pasty white skinned Irish lesbian with one leg. I have a distinct feeling it would bother people too, if they read the book.

I have read the book and enjoyed it. It was a boiled down dissenting opinion against African Colonialism. The white people losing their church after the preacher ripped the shaman's mask off during a ceremony was poetic justice in its finest.

My point is this: Make a good story without having to lean on Social Justice, as whatever point the character is trying to make will be lost on people who are their to kill some brain cells for a couple of hours, not get caught up in a protest. Race Swapping in either direction is a horribly over used tool that has been proven to ruin stories.

Call it what you will, paint anyone who doesn't believe in the Progressive social politics as bigots, and continue othering those who you disagree with, but in the end, people vote with their wallets and the dollar thats talking is saying Disney's shit stinks to high heaven.

I wasn’t talking to you. When I am replying to something you say, I will put it in quotes.

Apologies if you were offended. The comments were not directed to you. They were in response to the OP’s assertion that DEI is the reason for Disney stocks doing poorly.

I have a BBA in Finance. I hate to see Chan4 talking points presented as fact. But trollers got to troll.

True. I apologize, its just hard to hold a position when people think and troll to just troll. Anyone who takes Chan4 seriously is probably the last survivor of the neanderthals. Chan4 is only useful for porn and laughing at people who fail to read past Guy Fawks masks. They speak of atheism while wearing the mask of a man who was fighting for England to be a religious state. I feel op buys heavily into regurgitated talking points to extreme where he cant eat anything else. I am not offended, I did not realize you were using your PHdaddy skills on OP. I also do suggest you read "Things Fall Apart." It is a wonderful African piece of literature that will entertain. I dont think the chan4 folks are smart enough to be bigots.

Item the first, I have not gone to Chan 4 since 2003.

Item the second, Moviegoers ran toward the tornadoes this weekend, propelling “ Twisters ” to a blockbuster opening. The standalone sequel to the 1996 hit made $80.5 million in ticket sales from 4,151 theaters in North America, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Item the third: Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung is explaining why he avoids mentioning climate change in his new weather disaster movie. “I wanted to make sure that we are never creating a feeling that we’re preaching a message because that’s certainly not what I think cinema should be about,” Chung told CNN. “I think it should be a reflection of the world.”

Item the fourth: Did you happen to THE MESSAGE in enlarged and colored letters? People are SICK AND TIRED of being preached to about west coast beliefs and along comes a movie that entertains and only entertains, avoiding preaching and people flock to the theater to see the movie. Disney had to lose a BILLION dollars to finally figure this out. Talk about being slow on the uptake. So, no, I'm not just against DEI, I'm also against preaching instead of entertaining.
