Minnesota Is Looking for a New State Flag. Residents Have a Few (Thousand) Ideas.

They narrowed it to six. All blah, say nothing about the state, and biggest complaint, NO LOON. Egads the state bird was left off the flag.

However, the loon did make it to the proposed new state seal. LAWDY

The old flag is horrible, but the new flags are too modern “logoish.” Say nothing about the state. They are only distinctive in their lack of distinction. Could be the symbols for a bank or an insurance company.

All six have a "North Star", if you use your imagination and know we're the North Star State. A couple have wavy lines for the Mississippi River. I think the one with the green thing is a pine tree.

How great is it to have to explain the choices to even residents?

God only knows how much the consultants and committee members got paid.

First I've heard of this.  Don't like them.  Too modern, logo'd as mentioned.  Bottom two even look like it would be better suited for a country.

If I had to pick one, it would be the top left.  Star with the river.

Out of over 2000 suggested designs submitted for consideration this was the top pick. There's still talk of taking out the gree stripe. I missed why they want that to go. It was to represent our Northern forests and.also Southern crops. As that seems to make sense then by all means take it out.

Reminds me of Cuba or Puerto Rico.



But no one asked me.

At least you got your loon on the seal.

Here are some of the “variations” under consideration. The one in the lower right has the dark blue background shaped like the state, and moves the star to the north. That one makes more sense to me than the others.
