Legal Prostitution

I spend two weeks every year in Austria or Germany.  Prostitution is legal and regulated in both countries, and I take full advantage of it.  The girls I visit work in clean, safe brothels, and have regular health-screenings.  Everyone is of legal-age, and participates of their own free will.  The girls are well-compensated for their time.

Then I come home to Canada, where I could go to jail for even asking a girl if she wants to earn a few extra dollars.  Of course, it still happens here (and everywhere else) but the illegal-nature of the trade makes it dangerous for everyone involved.  I am currently looking for a provider in the area to keep me sane between overseas-trips.  With the legal-status of prostitution in this country, it has been complicated to say the least.

What do you all think about prostitution in general?  Should it be legal and regulated, illegal and prosecuted, or something in between?  Please understand that I am talking about legal-age prostitution, performed by willing providers without coercion of any sort!

There are two problems in discussing this. One is that any discourse will ultimately lead to the moral ramifications of the act itself and the other is the discourse on how it should be regulated and who should regulate it.

I had a professor, who taught Feminine Studies, she said that prostitution is the highest form of domination. Forcing a man to pay for something so natural and free. I personally wouldn't pay for sex, since I am married. I mean I personally wont judge those who do, but as for making it legal and regulated, its a pass for me. No amount of regulation can make it safer for the workers without turning it into a bureaucracy, and I feel many prostitutes may not want to have to register or be on a list or be bogged down by paperwork to make a quick twenty behind the 7-11.

I have little knowledge of the business however from listening and reading the meaning of prostitution has changed dramatically. Many women and I hear some men have become high paid escorts and earn, yes earn up to 6 figure incomes yearly. The simple approval of clients provides a safer environment and eliminates the sleeze element such as pimps. The need to be clean and proficient is paramount towards referrals and reputation

Absolutely...  There are different forms/models of prostitution, ranging from the sterotypical "streetwalker" up to the thousand-dollar escort.  As a client, I refuse to support the sleazy end of the business, and only visit respectable-establishments.  The girls are free to pick and choose who they go with.  It annoys me that people brand all working-girls as victims.  I've met a lot of girls who legitimately enjoy the job.
