The Wheel Of Time series, by Robert Jordan (and after the death of Jordan, was finished by Brandon Sanderson)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wheel_of_Time

Discussion of the book series, and the new Amazon Prime production.

If some of the first few posts do not make sense, it was because this was split from the MADE MY DAY thread.  Sheila made reference to the WOT and next thing you know, were derailing the thread.  So it was split out and into this new topic.

I spent most of the afternoon and early evening sitting outside on my zero gravity chair in shorts and bikini top rereading the wheel of time to fix all the f*ck up Amazon prime made, and getting some sun... IN OCTOBER!!!  84° sunny and beautiful!! I'll take it. Its completely unnatural, but that didnt stop me from enjoying it.

Perrin was never married, Mat never left the group after getting that dagger, the battle at Tormons gap happened after the horn was "moved" Padan Fain was not a trader, and had joined the whitecloaks for a bit until he got the dagger, the Seanchan invasion did not begin until book three, Min was an early teen girl, No one met the princess at the tower, Rand meets her at the castle. They cut out the best parts of Thom. Rand never approached Logan to teach him to channel at an asylum, and their meeting happened later, and by that time Rand already knew how to channel. They may have cut Rands battle in the sky where he receives the wound from the dagger that never heals, but also fulfilling the first part of the prophecy, where his palms are branded with heron marks from his fathers sword.

Did that help? or am I forgetting anything?

I loved this book so much.  I'm going to try and get it in audio on Libby.  Lots of fall cleanup with the leaves coming soon and love to have my AirPods in.  I loved these books.  Watched some WOT on Saturday night after coming in from the October fest party.  Fell asleep, but finished another episode. Might make it through this after all

I spent two days outside. I got a lot of sun.  No bikini top out in the front yard, but I had on a tank top.  Cooler weather coming next week. :(

I cant wait to see the scene in the show, if they follow the book, where the red ajah has Rand trapped in a box to kidnap him and take him back to the tower, but he explodes the box and stills two or three women in the process. Or when one of the forsaken, I forgot her name, had rand in the male version of the collar, and Lews Theron Telemon is screaming inside his head and gives Rand access to the true source and he shatters the collar on his neck and then goes on to balefire an entire castle with a forsaken in it.

Forgot about balefire.   "No no no, you can't use balefire, it will upset the thread."   But everybody used it.

Anymore WOT talk, and ima have to start a thread if we want to keep this thread on the tracks.  If so, I'll split all this out tomorrow.

It was a great attempt at a quick synopsis of the books, and I love you for trying, but you did miss some things... a LOT of things but there is so much to unpack. Rands injury was not from the dagger but from a spear/staff of sorts while battling in the sky over falme. Padan fain was a trader or a peddler, and I dont think he gets the dagger until later, but he does become a victim of that shadow city where Mat got the dagger. I believe he keeps it for a while before being separated, the name escapes me. And rand does destroy Ishmael at the eye of the world.

Yeah, they sped up a lot of key things in the show. Also Laindrin was NOT In the black Ajah, Suon was not a dark friend, and they are making it where Verin wasn't. That revelation so late in the books blew my friggin mind. Her and her ink smudges were a cheerful lovely thing in the books and then for her to be dark... gut punch.

Also, I did watch two new episodes even though I said I was done, but I caved and took a look. I'm not a betting woman, but looking at the paths that are laid put, they are going to have Perrin and aviendha get together and have Mat and Min get together.

Arite arite, apologies to all non-WOT readers.  I'll split it out of this thread tomorrow when I'm more awake.

Now I'm going to have to binge on it to catch up.  If only Dan would watch with me, he says he's done with the show, that it's not following the story line at all.

You remember the books really well, S.

The bad thing is, I just started reading the Clan Of The Cavebear series again and I am getting so sucked into it.  Reading a few hours a day, and at that pace it will take me three months to get through all the books.  I need more time in my day.

I read book (I think) 1-7, and then had to wait for the next book. When it came out, I started over at 1 and read them all again. I did that every time a new book came out.

I'm very sorry as well everybody

WOW, that's a lot of reading.  Or, rereading I should say.   I think my record for reading any book was appx 7 days.     I read book 1 twice I loved it so much.  But no more after that.

And in speaking of Jordan, you and I have also spoken of Terry Goodkind and the Sword of Truth series.   I've read that twice.   I think book 1, I would love to read again.  Loved it.

I don't think I knew that Terry Goodkind passed away.   Just googled it.  I thought he was like 50.   72 though.

A fantasy fiction series I've been reading for years.  Great characters and plot lines. Even named my car after my favorite character.... who just died....  i stopped reading it I cried for about an hour last night.

 :'( :'( :'(

My favorite is the Mord-Sith from the Sword of Truth series

OMG.  Terry Goodkind.  Mordsith are bad ass bitches. This is one of my favorite series.  Have we had this discussion?

Zedd, Richard, Kahlan, Nikki.  Gawddd  I loved that series.

It is without a doubt my favorite fantasy fiction series, and The Wheel of Time is a close second.

He was supposed to do a short series based on Nikki and Nathan Rahl, but unfortunately he passed away last year.

Ishmel was killed as was Lanfear, but the dark one brings them back in gender swapped bodies as a punishment for their failure. I forgot that if i mentioned his death, I would have spoiled an important plot point. I loved the wheel of time, even played the table top game. It just urks me that they could not keep the characters to their proper ages, and I understand why. Rand gets laid alot, and its kind of creepy to have teens doing the nasty, on the level of Stephen King's It. Moiraine never lost her powers, as she killed Lanfear by loading up on all the artifacts she could, powering them up and grabbing Lanfear and jumping through that arch on the wagon.

Yeah, Balefire was OP for a reason. It not only made things go poof, but anything connected to it. I think it said the last major use of it in the Last Age had cut the population down a bit. As cool as it is, the best weave Rand has is where he makes saw blades out of gates and throws them into battle. The only reason Ishmel targeted Rand, was because he knew Lews Theron Telemons spirit was in him, evidenced by the fact that he did not leave rands head after the cleansing of the male half of the source. And they both hated each other with a bloody passion.

I'm totally lost with WOT talk hear not having read the books. I'm enjoying the TV as I didn't read the books. So I don't know what they changed.

I still get lost with so much going on and all various groups
I just sit back and enjoy the visuals.

Sorry, I have a bad habit of nerding out over some of my passions, like table top gaming, books and anime and manga. The books are excellent reads, all 14 of them. Jordan focused on world building in his works, along with weaving a plot that kept readers hooked for more.

Balefire ereased what it hit from the timeline, like it never existed. I dont remember who did it, but somebody used it on that evil hound that was breaking through a door. When it got it, it disappeared, and the damage it had done to the door went away as well, like it never was.

It was banned because they were using it so much in age of legends that there were unraveling everything.

True, but if I recall correctly, when rand used it on the castle with the forsaken in it, he or someone mentioned it to him that a few people not involved with the castle was erased too. It was during the time he stopped giving a fuck, before he destroyed the key statue that accessed that giant statue that allowed him to channel much more than he would normally.

So I watched the latest episodes from prime. I'm not liking it, but for some reason I cant stop watching it. Why do I do this to myself? Ok, they weren't that bad, but they made some more major changes from the book.

If you havent seen it and still want to, dont read on spoilers for the show follow.

I liked how Matt got his Ashandarei in the books. Being hung by the elfin from it while rand was going through the aiel trials. In the show, padan fain give matt the dagger from Shadar Logoth back, and he makes his weapon from that. He then goes on to stabbing rand with it on accident. Really?

The battle Rand and Ishmael had in the clouds over the city of falme didnt happen that way. In the show, it was egwene and Ishmael that did the most battling, and if that's the case, shouldn't she be the dragon reborn?? Just saying.

Also I believe Perrin is supposed to blow the horn, and not Matt?? They are really turning perrin into this crazed monster instead of the slow methodical thinker he is supposed to be. I know he does have his raging moments and he kills a few whitecloaks because of it, but they made him way too angry.

It has been a while, and I decided to purchase the entire series and start reading it again. I could not believe how much I got wrong. What I remembered was not right at all. I thought they made characters evil when they were not, but it turned out they were right. Liandrin and Suroth I had confused with Elaide and Tuon, I thought perrin blew the horn... so many revelations have returned to me.

I'm loving rereading all those books. I'm just now restarting book 4, and cant wait to "remember" what happens.
