6 and 7 makes no sense to me, and I had present tense instead of past tense for 2

It's a pun. The word "rock" appears under the word "lives." So, someone who "is completely unaware of the modern world" is someone who lives under a rock.

"Sometimes the best things in life are a hot girl and a cold beer."

I sincerely hope I'm not surrounded by like-minded people right now. It would scare the shit out of me to be submerged in that kind of filth!!

Agreed. When she explained it, it became so clear what they meant. Remember doing those puzzles years ago

Those picture type puzzles I would call a rebus. The Mini has a rebus button on my display but I don't think this it means what I understand to be a rebus.

50 seconds

The word rebus come from the Latin expression – “Non verbis, sed rebus”. This means – Not by words but by things.  A basic example is the combination of the pictures of an eye, a heart, a sun, and a flower to mean – I love sunflowers.

The type of puzzle with symbols rather than words, like the example above, is what I generally think of as being a rebus.

However, rebus is defined as: ...a representation of words, phrases, sounds or syllables by images of objects, letters, numbers or symbols. More simply, the pictures or symbols of a rebus represent and express sounds and words.

Personally I don't like to see that kind of trickery in a crossword puzzle, but the author is free to make the puzzle however he/she/they see fit. I always have the option of not doing the puzzle.

A simple rebus for you to ponder.
