Yesterday they pulled the plug on my test of spinal cord stimulator. It was a week and two days all together. I got great relief and agreed to having the device implanted. Surgery is scheduled for December 18th. The device won't get turned on until a week later December 26th.
Day late Christmas present.

I was able to walk much better, even walking around the house without my cane. It relieved pain to almost zero. Of course that went away yesterday. The device was taped to my back during the test.

It can't be left there longer due to risk of infection. Besides a small device taped to my back, two thin is   wires ran into my spine and were attached to my spinal cord. It was a simple procedure using a big syringe to shoot the wires in. Yesterday those wires were pulled out and no more test, no more relief until a permanent device  goes in a month from now. Until then I tough it out.

I am now waiting for a call from the VA to starty pre- op physical. I'll be getting an EKG and other tests making sure it ok to slice me open and drop in a permanent device. I'll be getting lot's of help from the representative of the company that makes the device.

They were very helpful during the test and were available any time I had questions or problems.

As mentioned above, I have surgery scheduled for December 18th to have a spinal cord stimulator  implanted.

On Monday I got my pre-op physical done and sent of to the pain clinic that is doing the surgery (same day).

Yesterday daughter and I got back from a short shopping trip and were just settling in to lunch when the pain clinic called. They'd received the report from the VA. Also there'd been a cancellation, could I come in Monday!!! 

Well YES! I was to stop taking my lo-dose of aspirin ten days before surgery so that ship had sailed but a quick check with the doctor and she approved the shorter time on that.

So, Monday they'll cut me open run a couple wires into my spine and drop in the device that sends small doses of electricity to my spine. As reported earlier, I had one of the devices taped to my back for a week and was able to test it out before having it implemented. I got much relief and could walk a lot better during the test period.

So Monday is S-Day. The device won't be turned on until December 4th. tho'. Time to heal before I become Bionic -Bob.

Tomorrow is I-Day... Implant Day. I go in to have a brand new,  still in the box spinal cord stimulator dropped in my back and a couple wires run into my spinal cord.

I've already talked about this a lot so no further details needed.

Been making preparation last week. Had a number of pills I needed to stop taking. Last couple of days had to rub an anti-bactiria cream in my back. Also started talking an antibiotic that I'll keep taking for several days after the surgery. Tonight and tomorrow morning I showered with a special soap.

Then tomorrow I turn it all over to the doctor and her crew. Should take a hour for the surgery, and a few more (3-4) hours before I can walk out the door.

I'm so blessed to have my daughter here. She'll be driving me and will be a backup for the aftercare info. I may still be a bit in la la land.

I'm really happy to have this done. Wife is a little scared for me but I've never been nervous about other surgeries. Still good wishes and happy thoughts from my KB friends will be appreciated.

Next step is to activate the gizmo next week if things look good.

Argggg... still have a week before I get turned on. Need to heal up before I start getting some juice to my gizmo. Need to heal some. But yes I will get a lot of relief. That week of testing showed me that.
