I just feel guilty as there's others more in need.

I had similar feelings following my multiple surgeries in 2017. But you cannot put a price tag on the gift of life. So enjoy the talents, efforts, concerns, and most of all the LOVE, that are being sent your way Bob. Because you’re a wonderful person and you deserve every single good thing that can happen.

Donr be silly. Doesnt really matter what you've done while in the military. You've done a service and did what a lot of people wont or couldn't do. Whether you picked up a weapon or a typewriter, you were "an essential cog in the military machine." I dont know what you were typing out, but I can be certain it was important. It's the folks in the background punching keys on a keyboard that keeps food, water, ammo, equipment, and soldiers moving where it needs to be.

You need it, and you deserve every bit of treatment they provide you.

Love you :emot_kiss:

Doesn't matter who you are or what your problem is, there's always someone that has it worse. Doesn't mean you don't deserve the same care and compassion as anyone else. :)

I do feel I have a touch of survivors guilt. I can't see stories about the Viet Nam Wall in Washington without tearing up a little. I saw the names of several people I'd been in basic training with on a list of those killed the past week. I never picked up that paper again.

I resented being drafted but went anyway. My last year they turned our division into a training unit. New draftees were brought in and I was assigned to the S3 office, operations.
I typed training schedules, reserved tank trails for transportation to rifle ranges, etc. Also had a big armored personnel carrier to drive if our office went to the field.

Just before my discharge we had a full division field exercise. All with people we'd been training for several months.

A few years ago I decided to google my old unit. They.were sent to Viet Nam just a few weeks after my discharge. They had an excellent record while over there, even winning some unit citations. That makes me feel better about my service. The two years out of my life in the Army was a small price price compared to the many thousands of dollars that has been spent on me so far. I do appreciate it. Our country does a good job supporting it's veterans. And, they would do better if Congress would spend more money.

Well trained and been made compliant....by my cat Neville

Whether you served stateside or served overseas, you are still a veteran that went when called. The VA stands for Veteran's Administration. Least the government can do for those who served is to take care of them.

The Urology Department decided I needed a cystoscopy which is putting a camera inside my bladder to look for any signs of tumor growth.

Yes...they do enter through the obvious point. :o Thank God for small cameras.

Once I was up on the table a nice young nurse started with a careful and complete washing of the target area. To say that was pleasant would be an understatement. ;D Alleviated some of the nerves about what was to come. After the wash she proceeded to lay out some of the needed equipment. I asked if one of the items was the camera ant she said, "Yes, do you want to see it."

Trying to sound brave I said yes and she held up a thin black cord. It was liberally glistening with a thick coat of lube. The instrument looked no thicker than the tubes I used for quite a while when I had to self catheter to pee. My chemo treatment put an end to that.

After a few minutes two doctors entered, greeted me and one took position behind the other. I asked if he was going to do the play by play. There was a large TV monitor beside me. He said no just here to watch. He turned out to be the senior doctor and gave occasional directions to the Resident doing the procedure.

The TV screen lit up and the first thing I saw was a giant penis head. Impressive considering my small member. :emot_laughing: Next came a long pink tunnel and I knew the camera was inside. Not a bit of pain at all

When it came to the entrance of the bladder there was a little twinge as the doc pushed the camera through the barrier there. Wow! A huge cavern filled the screen and the camera moved around checking the wall of the bladder for tumors.

The tube the camera was attached to was now bent so we were looking back at the entrance. There was a red spot of scar tissue where they removed a tumor last winter. It showed full healing and no new growths. YAY!

That ended things. Camera was pulled out and I was told everything looked great and no new cancer was found.

They do want to do the procedure all over again in another three months. I guess the VA is serious about keeping this old fart going as long as they can. :D

Meh, if I had been the doctor, I'd have given you the NFL Films treatment. Lots of slow motion, the Power and the Glory music playing in the background, my best John Facenda impression...  ;D

Yes, nurse had warm hands. The disinfect water was cold and they warned me ahead of time. The warm hands made up for the cold water. ;D

Going to the VA today. I finally got approved for an epidural to help my back problem. That's a shot of cortisone into my spine.

Somewhere in all my medical adventures this past year a herniated disc was found iny spine. It's causing problems with both legs. Lots of numbness and trouble walking.

I get around the house ok with just a cane and if I'm going somewhere that doesn't require a lot of walking. A trip to the VA where even the walk from the handicap parking is a stretch I have a walker with four good wheels, not one you push with just two wheels. Has a comfortable.seat if a rest break is needed.

Hopefully the cortisone will give me some relief. Due to the stents I had put in last March after the small heart attack I've had to wait for this procedure. Had to stop taking my blood thinners a week ago. When the epidural was first proposed towards the end of summer my heart doctor said it was too soon to take that break from the blood thinners.

Who knows...by tomorrow I may be doing the tango. That would be a medical miracle! I have no idea how to tango. :D

Good luck!  Hope the epidural relieves the pain. Back pain is no fun.

ESI have helped so many of my back injury clients through the years. Usually takes two or three injections to get full benefit. Hope they work for you.

Well bummer. My blood sugar was too high so they put me off. Got a call from the wonderful pharmacist I've worked with for many years now. We worked out a plan for next time.

I'm to just have a protein drink that's low in carbs before I go in. Also increase my insulin dose two days before and the day of the next scheduled procedure. She also said to have a candy bar with me in case blood sugar too low. Yay... having candy prescribed  :D

Reason blood sugar is critical is the steroid they'll be injecting causes my blood sugar to jump up so it can't be above 200. I thought I was OK just having a bowl of cereal and some toast. Bad choice.

So plan is in place and I can call tomorrow to reschedule.
Thanks for words of support... again. :emot_kiss:
