Be nice to stretch that out a few more months.

I bet that you would love that pretty Oncology nurse to stretch something of yours out.  ;D ;D

Had a nice long session with my Oncology Nurse yesterday. She was quite encouraged about some of my recent test results and scans. She even said I inspire her. That took me aback and I asked her why. She went on to review what's happened to me since January when I first met with the Oncology people. On top of the cancer, I've had a small heart attack, fixed with two stents. Followed that with a bowel obstruction, something that happens every few years to me due to abdominal surgery years ago.  Got Covid, but due to being vaccinated and getting anti-virials wasn't even as bad as a cold. Now I'm having leg problems and they've found a herniated disc in my lower back. My remark was that it was like the Universe was telling me to get off. :D

Anyway, after I'd finished Chemotherapy, they discovered I was still getting spots of bone cancer. The doctor described it a rogue cancer that eluded the other treatments they'd given me. So, I was placed on a strong medication to treat that. Since then there have been no new bone cancer spots and some existing ones had shrunk. Looks like that new drug was helping. My Oncology Nurse said she's seen people go on for several years by taking the drug.

Last June the doctor told me he thought I had a year or maybe a bit more. Things are looking good for that "bit more" he mentioned. Will just have to see was future tests show.

The end of the month I see Neurosurgeons about my herniated disc that's messing up my legs. I'm being sent to the University of Minnesota hospital, as the VA Neurosurgery department is unable to see me within the 30 day window. That was a measure passed by Congress a few years ago to ease the backlog at the underfunded VAs around the country. It's kinda up in the air on what if anything they can do as I'm on a blood thinner since the heart attack. If any surgery is required, I'd have to be off the blood thinner for a week be for they do any cutting. They may have some less invasive procedures. Will just have to see what they say and weigh my options.

I can't say enough for the VA. Even though my life is shortened by the cancer, they've done all they can to give me a little more time and are spending a lot on me to improve my quality of life for what time I have left. Meanwhile I'll just keep perving along with you folks on KB. And yes...all the support I've received here has helped me very much and kept me from just "throwing in the towel".

Went to the VA yesterday for something I hadn't heard of before. It's called Battlefield Acu-punture. It was developed by a VA doctor to help with pain for recently wounded soldiers.

It is done with inserting five very small pins in each ear. I'm to leave them in for three days. I have felt a little of the numbness in my legs ease up some. Can go back in a week for another treatment in a week if I feel it's helping.

OK, even if it's not working it would be great to see the cute blonde nurse again. She can make me her personal pincushion any time. ;D

I'd already talked to her on the phone several times. She's on my palliative care team so I'll no doubt have more contact with her as things go on.

Thanks Obi. We all have choices to make through life. As I got older I knew I'd have to face "the Grim Reaper" soon. When that time came, I guess I was ready.

I chose to make the most of what life I have left. I've always found that "silver lining" as I faced various problems. This time I just want to enjoy myself and the people around me.

I did have a problem with wanting to do things myself, rather than accepting help. Now I'm gratefully accepting what ever help I can. From the medical staff at the VA, my wife who's very handicapped, we'll wishes and prayers from friends here on KB and in RL and simple things like a stranger opening the door for the old fart pushing a walker. With so much uplifting things around me, it's easy to face that great unknown ahead.

So now you have pierced ears?  ;D ;D

I have not heard of that procedure either.  Will have to ask the next time I go see the neurologist.

Cute blonde definitely will get rid of your numbness.  8)

WOO to Obi for what he wrote and WOO to you, my friend, for being an inspiration.

Thanks Rick. This VA is known for being innovative and using different forms of therapy. They've developed several new techniques for veterans with TBI, (Tramatic Brain Injury).
And I see more guys with support dogs. They have a special unit for training the dogs, then matching them with a vet and his needs. Many dogs you're allowed to pet, just ask first. And lots of the dogs look like they could be rescued, so another bonus of an animal getting a home.

In short there's a lot of inovative treatments being used above and beyond regular medical treatment. Not something you'd expect from a government institution.

Cheap, and dont mind using vets as Guinea pigs for "new and innovative" treatments.

I think it's just guess work... I guess it could work... yep, we lucked out and it worked.

Humm. So you're sceptical? Or have you had some bad experiences? As far as Battlefield Acu-punture it was developed by a doctor for wounded soldiers to help alleviate their pain. It proved so effective it's being used in other applications for pain relief.

I've started to see some early results. Wife even told me she noticed I was walking better, something I hadn't noticed. Maybe you see it as experimental... Acu-punture is only a few thousand years old. Ask the Chinese. :emot_kiss:

It truly makes me and my heart smile knowing you are recieving such wonderful treatment from the VA it truly does, but whenever I go, I'm treated as if I'm a visitor, and not a patient. Same goes for the VFW, or American Legion.  I couldn't possibly be a veteran of foreign war, r combat veteran, I'm a woman. Must be a spouse of a veteran.  And when they find out I am a veteran, I must have been a clerk, medic, or cook. Couldn't possibly be a soldier that has been in combat. Women weren't aloud in the infantry, but the sexism and ignorance of a surprising number of the older generation veterans doesn't take into consideration support units that see combat all the time such as military police.

After all that, I don't feel welcomed

The gods love you Bob, because we certainly do 🤗💋

You're right Shiela. Women in the military have not only been viewed as inferior to men. Worse many have been sexually abused or harassed.

There was a display a year ago at my VA. Several women vets were being acknowledged for their service...from WW II to the conflicts in the Mideast. Each had a placard with their photo and a brief blurb about their service. They all loved serving, yet the majority said they also been sexually harassed or abused. I left the area with a sick feeling in my stomach.

Personally, I salute you Shiela. You were over there in the shit, packing heat. Me...I stayed stateside away from the jungle, pounding a typewriter. All I can say is I pounded it well. :D

Screw the VFW, American Legion and whoever thinks a woman cannot have served overseas in a combat unit. One reason many Vietnam Vets, myself included, never joined the VFW - the old vets there never considered Vietnam a war.

Since I am the god of horny, both of you and everyone will always be welcomed.  8) :emot_kiss:
