After I made that naughty remark, I said it was a good thing she let me get away with that. Some places that could get me arrested  :o

She told me she'd been in the Navy working with all men. She said she gave back any crap they tried to give her. Her job... loading ordinance on airplanes. I can just see her strapping a bomb to the wing of a plane.

Been a week of testing and scanning for me.

My back and left leg fired up from the bone cancer. Last winter they fixed up my right leg with radiation treatment. When these new problems arose it took no time for the VA to schedule appointments for me. I wrote about getting naked for the radiation prep and mapping. The next day I was back for a bone biopsy. Took some bone samples from my hip. As they were getting ready to start, I was face down on the table. The doctor said ok, now I'm going to pull down your pants. I told him, "Enjoy the view." That got a laugh. Always good to have the guy who's sticking big needles in your bone to be in a good mood. Procedure went well. Despite how it sounds, I felt no pain.  Results next week.

Today I got a bone scan. Similar to PET scan only that it's just the bones that show up and there's more detail. Got to keep my clothes on this time, but my arms were strapped down to keep me still. When done I told the lady, "The other techs took my clothes off. You're the only one that tied me up." Leave 'em laughing I always say.

Next week radiation treatment Tuesday and Chemo therapy Wednesday. Plus reports on all the scans.

You could always point out that you don't need to be hooked up to a machine, you'd be more than happy to let a hot nurse scan your bone in the examination room   :emot_laughing: :emot_laughing: :emot_laughing:

Sorry

Haven't been too active this past week. Last week I got radiation treatment for my left hip that was affecting my leg. Also there's a spot of cancer on a rib where it attaches to the spine. That's been causing me a lot of pain especially when I'm sitting and the back of a chair is pressing on it.

After a week, the leg is doing better, back, not so much. Not sure if that means more radiation or something else.

The day after the radiation I started my final cycle of chemo. The first week if the heavy duty treatment with two different chemicals pumped into me. Left me pretty tired and totally wiped out for several days. One of the drugs, in addition to attacking the cancer cells hits some of my red blood cells. Guess they look similar and the drug can't tell the difference so BAM, take that red blood cell. Leaves me anemic for a few days.

Yesterday finished the second part of the cycle, just one drug that doesn't affect my blood. So I'm done with chemo. That finished up my fourth cycle. As I'm responding well to the prostrate treatment but still have new bone cancer spots popping up, the oncologist thinks there's what he calls a rogue cancer in there too that isn't responding to the treatment. Today I start a 15 day treatment with a powerful pill. How powerful you ask? Have to wear rubber gloves when cleaning the toilet...toxic pee! Even have to be careful handling the pills and avoid touching as much as possible.

Also planned is some kind of infusion for my bones to strengthen them. Before that happens, I had a dental exam yesterday. If any dental problems come up while on the bone drug it can kill the jaw bone which is as bad as it sounds. So it's was determined that I have three maybe 4 teeth that have to go. As the VA can't do that within 30 days, I'm being sent to a private dental facility.

So that's the update to now. All in all I'm not doing bad. The treatments haven't caused any nausea, just the tiredness. Hey, I'm old, I can sleep anytime I want...and do. :D   My next meeting with my oncologist is July 12. Will get update on his  plans for me then

Wish the news was better Bob, but I had a feeling something was going on, because you have been missed. Sending you love and positive energy.

Just tired mostly and a lot of that due to all the appointments. Lots of testing has been done last few weeks and only 3 sessions of treatment. I live less that ten minutes from the VA, so it's like my home away from home. There's vets that come several hundred miles to be seen. I so much luckier that most.  Plus I have lots of support from this board and all my real life friends and neighbors. :emot_kiss:

That's kinda how I lived life, CT. Maybe I should have been wearing rose colored glasses. :D I've never allowed myself to be brought down. Yeah, there's been bad times but I just rode them out.

Someone once told me to remember this phrase. "This too shall change." Nothing lasts. When things are good I say "This too shall change." There's bound to be a bump in the road. Knowing that it's not a big surprise. Same with bad times. Things will get better.

Of course in my case there will be an end to my road. Until then I plan to enjoy the journey. Come along with me and help make it more fun.

Irradiated pills it sounds like.

I'm trying not to he all sad and sappy, but its difficult. I'll try and distract with a little humor though.

If you need some help strengthening your bone, perhaps a visit to sheila's sunday might help?

Love you Bob, you are an exceptional person and a blessing to know. Get some rest love 💋

As far as that "bone" goes, the shot they gave me last January took care of keeping anything from rising there. It's a hormone treatment that has brought my PSA levels down. That's a test for prostrate health. Normal is 7... mine was 70!!!. Now it's only 1 something, meaning my testosterone levels are about zero.

Not a bad trade off for a little longer life. And I have my memories plus KB. ;D

For all my visits to the VA recently, I've gotten behind. I received my last chemo treatment the end of June. Follow up check still has my red blood cells count low and now the platelets are low.

That's delayed an injection I was to receive.  Also I need 4 teeth pulled before I can get an infusion to strengthen my bones. Low platelets mean my blood won't clot well, so not the time to be yanking things out of my jaw.

Will be getting another blood test next Wednesday. My main complaint is a bad pain in my back. Talked to the radiation oncologist yesterday and he's not seeing any cancer there. Will see what my other doctors say.

Fun and games continue on my health or lack thereof. Yesterday I woke with a numb right foot. Felt like a stone at the end of my leg. As there's none cancer on my spine I've been told to call right away. I did, but it was afternoon before an Oncology nurse got back to me.

She said get there to the ER. oh, and find someone to drive you. Not what someone who's been driving for over 60 years wants to hear. I made all kinds of reasons how I could get there. Cut through the park and stay off busy streets, etc. She was adamant.

Reached out AGAIN to my neighbor. She was ready in a flash. They go to bed early so I asked how late I could call. About 8:00 was the reply.

ER  was expecting me. Oncology had called down to say I was coming and what was going on with me.
A doctor saw me right away. Poked away at my feet and legs with a pointy stick then said he was going to call a neurologist.

After awhile he was back said they were going to do an MRI and it could be a few hours before they could squeeze me in. Nurse brought me a form to fill out...any metal in my body etc. I checked no at the breast implants question.

Next nurse in said good news, there was a cancellation, they can take you now. Yay! Walked down to radiology department and they decided to put me in a wheelchair as MRIs are now out back in trucks. There was flooding in the basement last May where all the heavy duty scanning equipment is.

So away we went towards the exit door. (RING) Phone call for the nurse pushing me. She hung up and said back to the ER you go. Seem first neurologist the ER doc talked to ordered one type of MRI. An Attending Physician jumped in and wanted a more detailed scan done, one that includes the spine. They don't do that after hours. So I waiting for a call to get that scheduled.

I'll keep you guys updated.

I don't know you well yet but I can commiserate with you regarding the VA and hospital visits. I've been an incomplete quadriplegic for the past twenty years. I imagine you hate to go to the ER as much as I do. I sure hope they help you with your current issue and wish you the best. I hope they can help you feel better.
