Shame shame on your daughter for smoking cancer stix while you're going through treatment!!

I'm surprised people are still able to afford cigarettes now a days. When I was in the Army, it was $4-$5 for a pack of camel lights. I remember when the price jumped to $7.50. Glad I quit long before that happened.

She actually smokes a pipe which has it's own damgers too. From what I've seen she puffs in moderation. Still I know what you mean. :emot_kiss:

My estranged it’s complicated wife has end stage renal disease, kidney cancer, femoral necrosis, and smokes a pack of menthol daily. She says most Russians quit smoking three times by their eighth birthday. No explanation for it.

Yesterday was another cystoscopy for me. That is taking a tiny camera and going inside bladder for a look see. And yes they go in through that hole. Been doing this every three months now.

Last time there was a small spot that even I could see on the screen. They told me it didn't look like much but will be keeping an eye on it

Well what ever it was it was gone this time and I was told everything looked fine. So will get another look three months from now.

Great news Bob.

I’m happy to report that everything seems to be stabilizing with me physiologically. My medicines are working as intended, and the side effects are greatly diminished. I still have good days and bad days, but I would say I am 90% lucid. Ambulating without difficulty. Able to remember dates and names. So it’s all good. Looking forward to the next 15 years.

Hi, just been reading randomly lately.  As all are. I'm happy to hear you're doing well.  What really caught my eye was your comment about the hole they use for the cystoscopy.

In collage many moons ago, my wife, then girlfriend ended up in the school infirmary with a bad generalized infection.  The Dr. said that it wasn't technically a classic sexual disease, I guess because it took over her whole system and was eradicated with strong , IV antibiotics.  However, they believe it to be transmitted through sex.

LSS, they wanted to "check me out".  I dropped my pants and the Dr. did his exam.  He said everything looked good but they were finding men could be non- symptomatic carries and he needed to do a swab.  No biggie, right?

I was a 240lb football tackle at the time.  You know you're in trouble when the Dr. looks at you and says, "This is going to hurt.  If you feel like you're going to pass out, tell me so I can call for someone."

He then took a DRY cotton swab and proceeded to take a culture through the same, afor mentioned hole.

I feel your pain.

Ooooo!  Dry swab, that sucked. I've watched and they always use lots of lube. In fact the first time I remember telling them "There's no such thing as too much lube."

Speaking about "that hole," many years ago, I had trouble urinating so I went to a urologist who had to put a "probe" up through that hole. Unbeknownst to either of us, it seems I had three sphincter muscles between my bladder and penis, where most men only have one. Because he had to force his was through, it not only was extremely painful while he was doing it, I about died every time I had to take a leak over the next week. Surgery was scheduled the next week where two of the sphincters were cut out...I'm 75 now, and there is no way I'd ever put myself through that again...well, unless there weren't any other options.

So glad you had such good news, Bob!

Another visit to the VA yesterday. Went to get the results of the MRIs I had last week. My last PET scan the first part of July showed a couple "hot" spots. One in my late hip and another in my sturnum or breastbone as it's more commonly called.

It appeared these could be new cancers that could be traced back to my prostrate cancer which then spreads to the bone. My Oncology Nurse Practitioner called these rogue cancers that resisted my other treatments.

So on to the results. The spot on my hip wasn't a new cancer. Just something else that caused the PET scan to give a misleading image.

As to the breastbone it was good news bad news. Bad news: yes there's a spot of cancer there that's caused a crack in the sturnum. Good news: the crack was there on an MRI a year ago and isn't some new rogue cancer.
My nurse is going to consult with Radiology to see if they think it should be zapped.

Most encouraging was that since I was first diagnosed with cancer a new treatment has been developed. The treatment is genetically design to work with the type of cancer I have. My nurse was quite optimistic about this for being able to give me a little more time on this planet.

She was talking about the chance of me seeing  80! I'll be turning 78 in December so that's a lot more time than was originally expected for me.

Wife was able to come to the appointment with me and hear the encouraging news. She's going blind and can't walk very far. I require a walker to cover the vast corridors of the VA.

We came up with a plan. Wife would get one of the wheelchair 's the VA has. I would then use that as my walker. I just need something to hang on to. It worked very well. I was able to push her easily and she was able to accompany me to the appointment.

So I mentioned that on Wednesday my Oncology Nurse said she'd make a referral to radiation therapy for me. The hole in my sternum is starting to cause me some pain. That was Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday morning at AM I was just injection my morning coffee dosage. :D. Phone call from the VA came in and I answered. It was Radiation Therapy and they'd had a cancellation. Could I be there by 9:00?

Only living ten from the Medical Center I said sure and started getting ready. Met with the doctor (I've worked with him a few other times) and his resident. He said he was sure they could treat the cancer and the bone should heal up.

Thought that would be it and they'd schedule a planning session where they use a CT scanner to measure where to zap the radiation. Nope... Doctor said let's do that now.

So off I went to the CT scanner room where a young lady got me positioned and ran me through the machine. A few measurements later, and some marks on my chest and I was set. I go in Wednesday morning for first of five treatments.

Talk about fast action.

Yeah... me too. My head is still spinning.

My Oncology Nurse worked several years in the Radiation Department, so I wonder if she used the connections she still there.

Started my radiation treatments today. Will be getting a series of five treatments. Three this week and Monday and Tuesday next week. I also visited my Battlefield Acupuncture nurse right after. She filled my ears with little tiny pins that I'll leave in for three days.

Now I'm sitting here.all wore out. Doesn't take much any more. Tomorrow I visit a pain clinic for another injection in my spine. Worse part is I have to be out there at 6:30 in the morning. Then back to Minneapolis for another zap in the radiation machine.

Busy few days. 8)
