Last few days have been spent getting my body scanned from every angle. Last Friday I drove to a far off suburb for three MRI scans. I thought maybe there would be at least a potty break between scans. Nope! Lady said the scans might not line up right so it was do all three back to back to back.
I was placed on the MRI bed and handed ear plugs. The tech then placed pads over my ears to further dampen the sound. Procedure was to last about three hours! Face cage placed over me and before I could say Hannibal Lecter, into the maw of the MRI machine I went. I heard the first few bangs, whistles and clangs of the scan then I remember nothing. Yes, Bob fell asleep during a noisy MRI session. I woke up just before the end and I heard the tech say about five or ten more minutes. Before long the machine spit me out. Now it was wait for a doctor to read the images.
That was my Friday. Monday I reported to the VA for a PET scan. That shows where spots of cancer are in my body. It's only about 15 or 20 minutes for the scan, but before that I get injected with something called contrast plus drink a container of barium. Then I sit for an hour before they do the scan. Again wait for the results.
Late Monday afternoon my Oncology Nurse called me. She sounded excited and happy. Said there were no new cancer spots on my bones and some areas had gotten smaller. The treatment we started several weeks ago was working. Not sure what that really means, but I'm hoping maybe I've picked up some more time.
Other news was the problem I've been having with my leg is more likely caused by herniated discs in my spine and not the cancer as they thought. So now it's on to Neuro surgery for their opinion.
To be continued as my medical appointments keep piling up.
