This film starring Andy Griffith and Patricia Neal and directed by Elia Kazan

is the story of Lonesome Rose, a Country Boy/sociopath turned household name

and halfway through it I couldn't help but think of Donald Trump.

Just recommending this gem to everyone.  The climax is a killer.

You’re not alone.  TCM actually played the film on Trump’s Inauguration Day, back in 2017.
