You're funny Vinnie Vinney,

I love when people sing when they drink.  I've never had the room spin, though a friend had it happen to her every time she would drink.

Some nice pictures tonight.  Loved 'bicycle'.  :)

The ingredients were simple: warm water, a ridiculous amount of sugar (I think the recipe was a five-pound bag), one can of malt extract (Pabst was sold in local supermarket), one pkg brewer's yeast (also in supermarket). As I remember, the cost of the ingredients came out to like a nickel per quart.
...

The sugar is a way around using (more expensive) malt.  The body suffers a little, though.  I made several batches with nothing but spring water, double-malt extract, hops and yeast.  It was soooo good that my sister even drank a bottle, and she normally hates beer with a passion.  This stuff was ambrosia.  I don't remember which brand of dark malt I'd used (I recall a red can, and that's it), Hallertau hops pellets with a small handful of fresh Nugget hops, yeast was a no-name house brand at the homebrew shop.  I *think* the malt I used is the can in the center of the pic below, but it's been too long and I don't have my brew log:

The way the laws read in Arizona back then, you could legally brew up to 250 gallons per year for personal or private consumption without needing a license.  You could give it away, but couldn't sell it.

I brewed mine in a 15 gallon trash can with a lid and a water airlock.  For cleaning the bottles & gear I used TSP and then did 2 or 3 hot water rinses in the dishwasher.  I'd usually rack up 4 to 6 cases at a time.  I never used clarifiers so mine always had a bit of yeast 'mud' in the bottom of the bottles (that's what makes the carbonation).  You really wanted to decant each bottle carefully into a mug to avoid the mud.

edit: forgot, ALE yeast (top fermenting), not LAGER yeast (bottom fermenting).  It's important.  ;D

Scotch or Gin?
Scotch pretty mellow, Gin, "T" hates those martinis I drink! I blame the Juniper Berries and only imbibe those when she is out of town! FYI Costco's Scotch ain't bad! Used to just drink Dewars!

It has been a while since I have imbided to the point that I am drunk. In fact, my wife of 20 years has never seen me drunk. And my first wife saw me drunk once. It always fell to me to be the responsible one who doesn't drink and drive.

Anyways, my best recollection seems to be it depends upon the environment. I have been a happy, outgoing drunk. I have been the sleeply, don't bother me drunk. At one remote military posting, the guy in the room next to me made it a goal to see me drunk. After 4 months, the entire section had what started out as a wine blind and turned into a 3 day party. The neighbour was quite thrilled to see how much fun and how happy I got with a copious amount of refreshments in me.

These days, I don't need alcohol to have a good time. Was at a house party a few years back. It started early and went on into the wee hours of the morning. One of the guests stated at about 1 AM that he was so drunk. I replied that I wasn't. He looked at me as if I had 3 eyes and disputed my statement. I had 3 beer in 6 hours. But I can carry on boisterously with the best of them without being hammered.  Same thing at a wedding a few months earlier. Was actually thanked by the bride and groom for being the life of the party.

For the record, I'm a bit of a beer snob and have been developing an appreciation for Sahara desert dry red wines.

That is all.

Not bitching about you JBRG, but I have a friend who is a beer snob, and OMG it is driving me nuts, lately.   Everytime we go out she makes a big deal of what to get.   My new friend, knowing how much it is grating on my nerves, mimics her.

Waitress:  What would you ladies like to drink.
Me:  Any Specials?
Waitress:   <insert any beer name here> for $2.00
Me:  Sold.
My Friend:   What else do you have?
Waitress spends 1 minute listing every beer ever made.
My Friend:   And what about on tap.
Waitress list beers on tap.
My Friend: Did you say Oberon?
Waitress: No.
My Friend:  I just want something different.
Me (thinking but not saying):  Dear God order a F*$#ing beer already.
My Friend:  What kind of Sam Adams do you have again?
Waitress names the few Sam Adams they have.
My Friend:  What about Fat Tire?
Waitress: No sorry.
My Friend:   Okay, sorry, one more time, what's on tap?
Waitress names the beers on tap.
My friend:   I'll just have what Julie is having.

Beers arrive.   She takes a sip.   "I should have ordered a Stella."

Never drink so much that the taste is lost in the vomit.

By beer snob, I mean that I'm not fond of the mass produced/marketed stuff like Molson Canadian, Coors Light, Labatt Blue, Budweiser, etc. I like to try the local, smaller brewery produced stuff. Found that I like 2 products from Missoula Brewing Company in Montana -- Pig's Ass Porter and Moose Drewl. Both are dark with lots of flavour.

I have friends like yours who do the same thing with wine.

That is all.

I'm the fun drinker.   Love to dance and burn some energy.   In conversation I'll agree with everything you have to say.   I'll think (and act like) something you just told me is the most amazing thing I've ever heard.

Updated this after this weekend.

The above response is after a couple of beers or drinks.    In the past 24 years of my legal drinking life, there is but one or two times I've had more than 4 drinks in a night.   I nurse my drinks, just sipping them.   Well, this weekend I didn't.   I think I had about 10 over a 2 hours span.

So, what am I like when I'm really really drunk?...

I just keep on rambling.   I'll start with one thing and it will lead to another and I won't stop talking (or in this past weekends case) won't stop typing.   I still knew right from wrong in the sense I wouldn't get in a car to drive or do something that would get me in trouble because I knew how bad I was and mentioned it often.     I'm even more flirty.   I'll open up more and let my feelings known.  Which can prove to be quite embarrassing after the fact.
I found that afterwards, I've never been more embarrassed in my life-------or it ranks in the top 10 most embarrassing things ever.
A couple of emails to a friend were a few pages long each.   And my texts to my girlfriend were quite lengthy also.   All 50 of them.
My girlfriend gave me a little crap about it, but after a few hours it was not brought up again.
My friend that I emailed handled it like a perfect gentleman.  He addressed the things I spoke of and never once made a comment about me being under the influence of alcohol.  He just signed off suggesting I get some rest.
Felt quite guilty all day yesterday.
Appreciate my girlfriend and friend for hopefully forgetting all about my actions of Saturday night.

So to sum it up in 7 words.   What am I like when I'm really drunk?    Not pretty, and an embarrassment to myself.

I'm a quiet drunk. It actually makes me more introverted which seems to be the opposite of what happens with most people.

While you're waiting in vain for that apology, why don't you make yourself useful by getting on your knees and opening your mouth
