Michigan Governor Whitman has been lobbying, and getting press attention with the Vice President Nominee selection in mind, for some time.

Change.Org petition is gathering steam, with over 80,000 signatures for Recall so far, as Michiganders feel slighted by the attention she gives her real job, as opposed to the job she is hoping to be selected for...

Michigan Governor Whitman has been lobbying, and getting press attention with the Vice President Nominee selection in mind, for some time.

She's not lobbying for VP.   I believe her when she says that is not a goal.  She has done nothing but focus on the Covid issue.  And I'm not happy with her performance there.

She is strangling the state with her executive order.   You can go the Meijer (kmart/walmart type store) to get food, but certain areas of the store are to be blocked off by her order.  for example, electronics, clothes, housewares.   Some stores are allowing some purchases, others are not.  Lowes and Home Depot are open.  You can't buy paint or appliances and you can't go to the gardening center.  You can't buy mulch.  You can only buy essential items.   Police in my area are going into stores and writing tickets for violations.

She has banned travel from one residence to another.   So I would be breaking the law and subject to a $1000 fine if I were to go from my current residence to our cabin up north.   It's ridiculous.

She has shut down golf courses.  Which is very easy to exercise social distancing.  She has shut down state parks where people can easily social distance.   The weather is turning.  It was 60 degrees today.   She tried shutting down boating.  Ridiculous.

She wanted to put an additional 70 day stay at home order on us, on top of the 21 day order that expires Tuesday.  Basically shutting down the state for 70 more days.  Others in Lansing balked.  We are now on an additional 21 days as of Friday, so May 2nd.

She hasn't done much for the state since election.   Her 'fix the damn roads' that she ran on was basically going to be funded by taxing businesses.  Thankfully she was shot down.  Then she tried to put it on the trucking companies saying they were tearing the roads up.   Well, that would just get passed on to the business community.  Shot down again.   We have a ridiculous high gas tax that should be going to the roads but everybody has their hand in the pot and a very small percentage actually goes to the road repairs.   In case you don't know, Michigan has the worst roads in the nation.  The absolute worst.  I've driven all over the midwest and south.  Nothing compares.

GW is smart, but she doesn't think things through.   No way can she be VP.

Having done the Democrat reply to SOTU Address, and Biden stating he will have a woman on the ticket, and Biden not saying a woman of color, after the fiasco when he was seeking the black vote, and mentioned the loser in Georgia as a 'ticket' then had to back off his statements, some time ago...

Media is treating MI Governor as being in the VEEP short list for Democrats.
Indeed she is enjoying use of executive power with the business of shutting down anything she dares, and that is as good an example as any about why such powers need curbing Nation Wide.

I certainly hope JoE is listening to you, and not his usual pack of advisors. My concern is when JoE actually Wins, and is in the Oval Office, who is it that will actually be running the country, in his name... Establishment Democrats have been flying in circles above, with a hungry look it seems, as JoE has been locked in his basement the past month or more... rehearsing 7 sentence short vids, over and over... then making friendly Media clips, with little to no media coverage in mainstream media of his flubs and such trying to pull them off.

I do not seek to wish Ms. Whitman on the Nation as VEEP, and she seems to be on the short list... regardless of what she may say to Michiganders as she orders y'all around... No Garden Supplies! Not Essential! Lol...

Nope on Amy. She was doing a good job as Senator before she got sidetracked by her Presidential ambition. I hope she can get back to the business of serving Minnesota in the Senate.

Rice? The same person who lied to every Sunday show for Hillary, when our Ambassador and three others were killed by Terrorists in Libya on Hillary's watch?

We came, we saw, they killed him...

Days, not weeks, for a year of war without any resolution?

Libya is still a total mess, gateway to Italy and Greece, and EU, for hostile migrant Islamists.

I just do not see what Susan Rice brings that is in any way "positive", or electable.

Has Rice EVER actually been elected to anything, or confirmed by Congress for any position? I recall she could not get confirmed, and so was appointed to some jobs that did not require any confirmation at all... is still lying...

Covers for Obama... is she owed a slot on the ticket? Only is a losing ticket is expected... maybe she will write a book after the statute of limitations expires...

Biden does not need that baggage, IMHO. Is she the one he did not rub himself on in the Obama Administration?

Stranger things have happened. What STATE will Susan Rice "Deliver"?

I haven’t seen one peep in the media about the Michigan governor as a candidate for Veep.  That’s not to say such speculations don’t exist, but I read a lot and have seen nothing.  I’m sure you could list a 100+ names at this point that have been speculated upon, 90% or more aren’t serious contenders on anyone’s long list.

And any speculations by joan are meant for trolling purposes only.

Often, persons selected by the Democrat Party to give important counter speeches to things like the State Of The Union Address by our President, are selected to give those selected Democrats national attention, and such persons sometimes go on to run for higher National office.

Thus the Governor Whitman attention, from the time she gave her address, up to present day. Governor Whitman has gone out of her way to attack our President, not that she has been very effective in that regard, and had to reverse some of her asinine remarks regarding promising off label use of existing prescription drugs which President Trump mentioned in one case.

Governor Whitman's power grab, and over the top micro managing ideas will no doubt make her less electable for any ticket, and I am speaking as a rational person, common sense, and not trying to simulate how a Democrat thinks... especially a Democrat who's limited access to actual news is self inflicted.

Enjoy whoever you guys can come up with to stand next to sleepy JoE, as he does his Alfred E. Newman act for the balance of 2020. No joke...

The republicans, or more directly Pres Trump, are the ones thrusting Whitmer into the spotlight by him bringing her name up early in the COVID invasion of Michigan.  He's the one getting her name in the press.  I still believe she is not interested in VP for Biden.

Trump was being petty and speaking of 'that young governor woman in Michigan'.   He needs to understand that Michigan is a swing state in the midwest as his republican colleagues warned him to back down during their dispute.

The thing is, Whitmer is incompetent.  While she's blasting Trump for lack of supplies being provided to the state of Michigan, which is #3 in cases in the US, it became clear that she didn't file the requests properly with FEMA.   FEMA NEVER RECEIVED A REQUEST.  She only did so (and quickly received the requested items) after the public (Twitter) feud between her and Trump when the Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party instructed her she needed to file with FEMA, not with whoever the wrong party was that they filed the request.

She's just not all there.  Not a fan of GW.

Yes, true that Trump "punched back" and brought some attention to Governor Whitman, AFTER she attacked him with press statements, as seems always the case, when he goes after someone in public, often is the 'counter punch' earned by the person. Media is no small part of finding "opposition party" members for such "venting" interviews.

Michigan House Won’t Extend State of
Emergency, Votes to Sue
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Instead

KYLE OLSON30 Apr 20208,531

The Michigan House of Representatives declined to extend Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s state of emergency another 28 days, and instead voted on Thursday to sue her.

Whitmer’s initial state of emergency order, which is separate from the stay-at-home order, expires on Thursday and requires legislative action to be lengthened.

Negotiations on that front fell apart on Wednesday when Whitmer refused to make any concessions on the matter, asserting she has the ultimate control of emergencies.

So the House voted to authorize Speaker Lee Chatfield to sue the governor, saying Whitmer’s “unchecked and undemocratic approach” is not the best way, ABC 12 reported.

“The current status quo relies on one-size-fits-all edicts that unfairly punish millions of people across the state without giving them any recourse or voice in the process,” Chatfield said.

“The people deserve a better solution, and we can provide it.”

The House also passed a resolution restricting a governor’s state of emergency declarations to 14 days. Whitmer has vowed to veto that legislation.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the capitol and demanded the state be reopened.

“We want Michigan open, we want Michigan back to work,” Jason Howland, one of the protest organizers, told Fox 17.

“We put the event together, we put it on Facebook, and we heard that they were taking down events that had to do with protests or rallies against the wishes of Whitmer,” he said.

Facebook confirmed it removed the protest page “because the event would have defied government guidance on social distancing,” the site reported.

Polehanki claimed some of her colleagues “who own bullet proof vests” were wearing them.

The Senate is expected to vote on a similar resolution authorizing leaders to pursue legal action against Whitmer’s orders.

I am not liking this woman.  Honestly.  She's powerplaying and needs to loosen things up.   We're trained what social distancing is.  Let us wander and prove it to you.  I can't take much more.  It's quarintine fatigue setting in.

Michigan Judge Sides with Barber,
Rejects Gretchen Whitmer Demand to Close Shop

Judge Rules Barber in WI Can OpenNBC25 News
KYLE OLSON11 May 2020

A Michigan judge has denied a motion made by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s administration that an Owosso barber close up shop during the coronavirus outbreak.

Great Lakes News was outside Karl Manke’s Barber & Beauty Shop on Monday when the ruling came down.

Reporter Katie Heid said the judge denied the state’s claim that the 77-year-old Manke to close his shop because he was allegedly in violation of Whitmer’s stay-at-home order.

“This is not only a big victory for Mr. Manke, but also for other small businesses,” she said.

“Who else will open their doors?”

The state Attorney General lost in its effort to obtain a temporary restraining order, NBC 25 reported.

The AG said:

The Attorney General’s court action, filed on behalf of MDHHS, seeks to enforce the MDHHS Director’s Public Health Order that deemed Mr. Manke’s business an imminent danger to public health in light of the COVID 19 pandemic and directs him to immediately cease operations at his barbershop. The State is seeking to schedule a hearing as soon as possible.

The AG asserted Manke’s open business presents “clear public health dangers”.

Manke told ABC 12 he reopened after unemployment benefits were denied three times.

The barber had been repeatedly fined for allegedly violating the shutdown orders, but supporters paid the fines.

“I just couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t do that,” Manke told radio host Steve Gruber about continuing to operate his business.

“I don’t care really if I have to spend all of the money I’m making right now to pay my fine. It’s worth it,” he said.

He said he will only leave “if they drag me out in the street or Jesus comes.”

Manke said he has fielded several calls from other barbers about what to do.

“You have to have courage,” he said.

Gretchen Whitmer Loses Again
to 77-Year-Old Barber:
Judge Rules Shop Can Remain Open

Karl Manke, a 77-year-old barber in Owosso, Michigan, has defeated Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel in court for the second time in about a week.

The Argus-Press reported:

Judge Matthew Stewart ruled that Karl Manke will not have to close his shop after the state again failed to prove he was an imminent danger to public health.

Stewart said the state did not arrest Manke when he was cited, so he didn’t represent “an imminent health danger.”

“(The attorney general) has not presented any studies underlying the doctor’s conclusion. (The attorney general) has not shown any nexus between the cutting of hair and an increased risk of transmission,” Stewart wrote, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Nessel’s office said she would appeal the ruling.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs suspended Manke’s license without a hearing.

“It’s an unbelievable abuse of power,” attorney David Kallman told radio host Steve Gruber, stating there is no legal basis for the action.

“This is pure retribution by the governor’s office and by the AG. This is so petty and vindictive, it’s beyond the pale,” Kallman said.

After her defeat, Nessel attacked Manke publicly.

We want him to discontinue his conduct, which we think is aiding and abetting the spread of the virus,” Nessel claimed.

“Mr. Manke,” she sighed, “He’s not a hero, he’s not a patriot. A patriot is a person that fights all enemies, foreign and domestic, and does everything possible to protect his fellow countrymen and countrywomen.”

“To me, Mr. Manke is doing just the opposite of that and he’s being selfish in his behavior,” the attorney general declared.

Our Minnesota Senator Amy is also in the running and will be undergoing the vetting procedure.

https://www.startribune.com/report-amy-klobuchar-officially-being-vetted-for-vp/570671632/

It appears there's several other women also being vetted.  Biden is committed to choosing a woman as his running mate. This would be more interesting if Biden would start acting like a candidate.  I can only assume he feels he must wait for the Democratic Convention to officially nominate him.

Meanwhile, Trump is continually in the news.  Even though every time he opens his mouth he sounds like an idiot, there's still a lot of support for him. If the Democrats want the White House the need to start offering positive proposals. I don't see an anti-Trump campaign working for them.

Michigan Supreme Court Unanimously
Sides with 77-Year-Old Barber
over Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

Judge Rules Barber in WI Can OpenNBC25 News

In a unanimous 7-0 decision, the Michigan Supreme Court sided with 77-year-old barber Karl Manke over Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Friday.

Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel have been relentlessly pursuing Manke, attempting to force the closure of his shop during the coronavirus pandemic.

Great Lakes News reported on Facebook late Friday that the Court ruled unanimously in favor of the Owosso barber — a stunning decision, given the narrow 4-3 ideological split in favor of conservatives.

According to Great Lakes News, Manke’s attorney, David Kallman, called it the “biggest, most lopsided victory of his career.”

Whitmer and Nessel fined Manke and stripped him of his license after he repeatedly refused to close his business in defiance of Whitmer’s executive orders.

A Michigan Court of Appeals upheld that Manke’s license suspension was valid, but the Supreme Court decision reversed that.

Manke was defiant after the Appeals Court ruling and told WILX, “I’m still open, still working until they cut my hands off.”

He said the response during the protest and the support for his stand was “overwhelming,” and called himself “a Michigan small town barber that just wants to work.”

“This is an oppressive move on this governor’s part,” Manke said, observing that it “reflects almost a police state.”

“I refuse to stand down on this,” he said.

“I wasn’t this rock star three weeks ago,” Manke told Breitbart News, but Whitmer made him one.

He thanked God for the development.

“I’m still standing up. I still have that courage,” Manke said.
