But now you can still enjoy a juicy burger... as long as it's plant-based.

Read a newspaper article this morning which said the church ruled that plant-based 'burgers' fall within the letter of the law if not the spirit.

Isn't that what lawyers call a loophole?

A "plant-burger" is not meat. If it's not meat, it's not a loop hole.  Personally tho', I consider a plant based "burger" a sin.  May the people who promote this travesty burn in hell. :emot_laughing:

Everybody is always trying to find substitutes made of this and that, trying to make it seem like the real thing, oh sure it can fill you up, it may satisfy, but nothing, NOTHING, beats a nice thick juice piece of meat  :emot_thdrool: :emot_thdrool: :emot_thdrool:

The Orthodox observe a more stringent Paschal fast.  Forty days with no meats or meat byproducts (including dairy and eggs), no grains, no oils, and NO ALCOHOL.  What’s left?  Basically fruits and veggies.  It sucks.  I have been trying to complete the fast for 20 years, and usually make it no more than 10 or 12 days in.

A strange twist to this is that shellfish are allowed.  Meat is considered anything with a backbone, and shellfish do not have a backbone.  I asked my spiritual father, “So I could eat lobster every day, for 40 days, and be fast compliant?”  He paused and wisely responded, “The purpose of fasting is to discipline our flesh.  There are no loopholes.”

Damn spiritualists.

I'm old enough to remember when Catholics had to go meatless every Friday.

My dad and a few others would go fishing on Friday in the summer, usually staying past midnight. The one Catholic with them would fire up a small grill and toss a steak on. He timed it so it would be ready at midnight. Now it was officially Saturday and he forgot about fishing and dug into his steak.

Kinda like following letter of the "law" as opposed to the spirit. :D

I happen to like most veggie burgers I’ve tried.  It doesn’t mean I’m giving up meat, but reducing the amount of real meat I eat is both healthy and good for the environment.  I particularly like MorningStar Farms Spicy Black Bean burgers.

I’m a little weird though, I frequently have real bacon on my veggie burger.

I’ve yet to try those impossible burgers, but I do need something for lunch today, just not sure where the nearest Burger King is.  I haven’t been to one in many years.

Just because anti-Catholicism is inevitable, it doesn't mean it's necessary.

Catholics are not forced to abstain from meat, nor to they "have to," nor, for that matter, is abstaining from meat during Lent a point of doctrine.

Mocking people for their religious beliefs and practices may be de rigueur, but it's still in very poor taste.

'Door Dash' will bring your BurgerKing order directly to you... no need to recall where the nearest BurgerKing may be...

I LOVE taco bell.  That is my go to for when I don't want to cook, when I'm out running errands and need a bite, my guilty pleasure.  I eat it at least twice a week.

Dan's is giving up any business that has a drive thru, fast food & coffee places.  Also 7-Eleven (he love Taqitoes(sp?))

He is also giving up mindless evening snacking (pretzels, cashews, doritoes, popcorn, etc)

And the toughest one ........He is giving up ice cream.

He stays in shape with exercise but he knows he would be in better shape if all of the above is out of his diet.   I don't eat 10% of the stuff he does.

.

Maybe once or twice a year, I’ll have a burrito supreme and two crunchy tacos supreme.  That’s about it.  That stuff will kill you.
