This makes me so sad.   There has to be better options.

The items face rotting in place, or suitable disposal, due to the Country being closed until May 1, perhaps. Sadly, Farmers and Egg Producers, and Milk producers, deal in quantity supplies that most Food Pantry type places simply cannot deal with, rather than the 'ready to market' packaging such donation based places are prepared to hand out.

Pallets of eggs, tanks of milk, and truckloads of vegetables just overwhelm the ability of donation sites to accept and distribute. And they get to write off their cost, I am sure, against any potential profits upon which the are taxed, as well as the disposal costs can be deducted to shelter profitable remaining monies.

The new American heroes are those people we've taken for granted for far too long. Even before the current crisis, they've been there for us.  We just accepted it and went about our daily lives.

When the panic buying first started, I was in a local supermarket. The clerk looked frazzled, yet was being polite and do her job under the added pressure. I said something to her about how great it was she and the rest of the staff were there for us.  She paused, a smile broke over her face and she thanked me.  Just a few simple words of gratitude made her day.

I always make it a point to thank the staff and clerical people that remain on duty during this pandemic. A young girl helped me with my groceries to the car, and I offered her a $20 tip. She said, “Oh no sir, we’re not allowed to take tips.“ I replied, “This is not a tip, it is an interest free loan you will never be required to repay. Please take it.“ She did, and she smiled. Pay it forward.
