I've never been much of a worrier.  That all changed in the last 4-5 years since losing loved ones while at the same time adopting my niece, marrying Dan and becoming a family with he and his two daughters.   Loner Jules would have been okay with this stuff.  Family Jules is not.

My biggest concern with this is wiping it out completely.  It's an impossible task.   There will always be someone that is asymptomatic.  They can unknowingly spread it around for 14 days, at which time all those people they come into contact with are spreading it around.   I just don't see how it will ever end.

There is speculation that this will become a recurring seasonal affliction in the years to come. Let's hope they come up with a vaccine before next spring.

If the vaccine will be anything like the flu vaccine, will it only be effective against a certain strain?  These viruses mutate so fast that today's prevention is tomorrow's maybe.

Herd immunity, the question is at what point will we achieve that and from what percentage of those injected versus the percentage of those vaccinated.  I prefer to be one of the vaccinated.

Again, my understanding is somewhat fuzzy here so I'll try not to stray into specifics I don't understand correctly, but vaccines are not so much an alternative to herd immunity as they serve to artificially boost herd immunity. By all means, the earlier a vaccine can be developed for COVID-19, the better, but the key point is that regardless of the vaccine there will come a time when this strain of coronavirus is no more a threat to humans than any of the strains already in circulation. Our path to "beating" COVID-19 does not involve wiping it out of existence entirely but rather reaching a point where the average person no longer distinguishes it from the common cold.

As GB stated, the virus is here to stay.  The strategy is to “flatten the curve” so our emergency medical centers are not overwhelmed, and slow the progress of the virus while we race to discover an effective vaccine and treatment protocol, but it will still be here.  The 1918 H1N1 pandemic had three waves.  The first in the spring of 1918, the second and far more deadly in the fall of 1918, and the third in the spring of 1919.  Each wave was characterized by a mutation in the virus.  I don’t think we should expect any different.

The House Intelligence Committee Chairman knew in November, and in Early December, about the possible seriousness of the Wuhan, China deadly virus, and chose to ignore the briefing, and concentrate on C Span TV broadcasting of Impeachment, near exclusively.  They followed this in the House with Speaker Pelosi holding up the transmission of the Articles to the Senate for a month.

And they bragged about it on TV, handing out special order Pens and so forth, as the virus was spreading, and gaining traction in California, Pelosi's State.

The Speaker was shown nodding off during the State Of The Union Address, when the President spoke about the Wuhan, China virus, and how we were assisting China, sending them medical supplies.

When President Trump cut off air traffic, and travel to and from China, he was mocked, called Racist by House Democrats... lucky he acted when he did, and too bad the Intel Committee Chair did not act at all in a timely manner on the information his committee was sent early on.
