Shelter in place begins at 5:00PM today in Illinois. National Guard to assist only in setting up and manning additional testing sites.

It's too cold and windy to go outside anyway.

The tribe is having pizza, snuggling and watching a movie. Which we would have done anyway.

Out of curiosity, are there any members who still think COVID19 is not a huge threat or our governments are overreacting to it?

I'm not taking any chances.  Went to check my mail and my neighbor was at out boxes.  I stood back until he was done an started walking away.  After he got far enough away I went to check, he laughed and rolled his eyes at me.  Said he doesn't have it as the only time he leaves his apartment on the last two weeks is to check the mail.  Not taking chances.

Hes super sweet guy and first one to welcome me to the complex. So it wasnt a rude encounter or anything

I dunno.  Historically speaking, this is far less severe than the 1918 Influnza.  If this Corona virus had been back then it would have been allowed to run its course.  But things are different today. We have medical equipment that can save lives.  So of course we do whatever we can to save them.  So no, not really an over-reaction, but some people are over-reacting.  I never thought I'd see rationing, but our local grocery stores are rationing.  Only two gallons of milk per household, and the same for meat and some other things  like toilet paper.  It hasn't helped with the TP though as there is still none to be found in the stores.  I'm glad the store is doing this and upset that people are making it necessary.

Been on board before March 8.



So first to go was the TP, then handsanitizer, paper towels, bleach, etc.    Most recently, Ammunition.  And gun sales are through the roof.

I know I haven't been around much, but it's only indirectly linked to the virus.

I've been mega-busy with prepping for off-site working.

Six of us in the house, all healthy, our only issue is getting normal food supplies in whilst others are panic-buying.

I foresee huge long-term changes in education and society after this...

I will only speak for myself Joan. Bunker mentality. Hoarder syndrome.   Survival of the fittest (best armed).
 
Some fear shortages of goods will force them to either protect their assets or require them to forcibly obtain that which is in short supply.

I understand gun ownership for protection of family and for defense when attacked by aliens or brown skinned people crossing a border. To purchase for any other reason escapes me.

  Legal purchase, complying with State/Local laws, and ownership of firearms is a Right for US Citizens, regardless of the reason she/he wishes such ownership, or such a firearm.

  Common sense allows that those with an interest to protect their family and/or home will purchase a firearm, or take other legal measures, and get their skill training, and safety training to benefit themselves.

  Illegal use of anything, including a firearm, is just that... illegal. Legal use of anything, including a firearm, is just that... legal.

  Threats to disrupt by any means, the Constitutional ability to own a firearm, can be counted upon to cause any Citizen who wishes to protect such a right, to act in their own best interests.

The Federal Government here is still under reacting to it leaving various state governors to lead in that vacuum.  But they still need action by the Federal Government, as the lack of leadership at the national level will inevitably lead to states competing with each other for limited medical resources.  Things needs to be mobilized at a national level to produce what’s needed.  A few governors have already sounded that warning and are begging for actions from the Feds.

All the while Trump still talks about non-existent cures and lashes out at the media who are getting it correct.

So Trump is using war powers to speed up production of essential respirators and face masks, and will then allow the states to bid on them.  Stupidity!  This sets it up so only rich states will get the equipment.

The Federal government needs to step up and take inventory and get the supplies where they are needed most.  If a hospital in California has a two month supply of face masks and a hospital in Houston has a two week supply, who need the face masks first?

It's time to bring in the military to provide logistics, and get supplies where they are most needed first.

Your lease should protect you for some time from your Landlord. Of course, she could sell the home, then your lease protects you from the buyer.

Unless you have a month to month lease, or no lease at all, in which case you do have a problem. Even so, local law would dictate how much time you have prior to eviction, and with C Virus, many places have stopped all Evictions until the Emergency has passed.

I got a phone call from my landlord today. She is a nice young woman who lives in Houston. I rent a house from her that her father gave her years ago. She informed me that both her and her husband are now unemployed. And she is thinking about moving back into the house we rent. If that happens, my family could be kicked to the street. So this just got very real.

  Wait, Toe... do you not have a lease agreement to protect your family against unknowable events?  Maybe you have renter Insurance in place with such clause or some other means to secure your family.  Did you not have a competent Lawyer help when you decided to rent this property?

  Sure hope you had competent legal support, and renters insurance of course.
