So my Peruvian has been applying for unemployment.  After several days of calling and website crashes, she finally got on the website.  I was encouraged to see it had been updated to reflect the current crisis with many questions like ‘Did you become unemployed due to COVID-19’, answer ‘Yes.’

After all was answered as truthfully as she could (with my help), she got two outputs:
1. You’ll get $X per each week you apply and are eligible.
2. You make insufficient money to receive unemployment benefits.

So, now we’re waiting to see which of the conflicting outcomes are true.  If she’s gets the bank card with the amount stated, it doesn’t even cover her car payment.

The other thing I found surprising, you can be too poor to get unemployment.  Although I’m not surprised that daycare workers don’t get paid shit.

Meanwhile, our stimulus payment has not appeared in the checking account.  At least I have direct deposit and won’t have to get a Trump campaign ad with my Trump signed check.

While luxury hotels get billions in bailouts.

Our masters are preparing to send us back to the mines. They are already telling us that it was “no big deal”, that the numbers were exaggerated, and that the loss of life would’ve happened anyway. Why?  Because it’s very important for us to put on our harnesses, and start pulling our plows again. They’re terrified that they might lose some money. Corporate America‘s response to the pandemic, and our totally incompetent leaders, underscore the pathetic state of America today. I’m already having people on Facebook tell me that I am an alarmist, and that I have exaggerated. This is 20 9/11’s. 20 Pearl Harbors. AND IT’S NOT OVER.  Don’t tell me it’s nothing.  You can immediately identify the people who listen to Fox News, who support Donald Trump. They will be the ones telling you that the economic harm caused by the shut down was unnecessary and unwarranted. Please people, throw your grandparents under the bus. Throw away your masks. Stop social distancing.  End of rant.

We blew past the number of U.S. dead in the Vietnam War.  Only the Civil War and WWII had more dead.

I have colleagues in Sweden.  Usually a reasonable and smart country, they tried an anti-lockdown approach and are paying a high price now.  Fortunately for my colleagues, our company has a stay at home policy for those that can.  Every country that failed to lock down quickly is paying that price.  Every country that tried or tries to open too early will get a second round of infections and death.

Countries that locked down and did well include New Zealand, Taiwan, Germany and South Korea.  There are probably others, just can’t think of them.

It’s a failure of leadership.  And in the U.S with its current leadership, you deny what is happening, make incredibly stupid choices and comments, and blame everyone else for your failures.

Here are the numbers:

World population is 7.8 billion
U.S. population is 331 million (or 4% of the world)

World infection rate 3.2 million (although under reporting is rampant)
U.S. infections are 1.1 million (or 33%, which is up from 30% just a few days ago)

World dead 228,000
U.S. dead 61,570 (or 27%)

Way to go Trump for your ‘leadership’.  We were the most powerful country in the world with the best resources to combat a pandemic, yet the numbers show just how badly we are fucking this up.

So the economy needs us to succeed?  Who woulda thought?  What happened to the rich "job creators?"  Maybe the GOP should remember this the next time they give the rich tax cuts.  Who really built America and who are the parasites?

Think of it as 1 1/2x so so far, or maybe TWO Flu Seasons in 2020. Thats it. Or, think of it as "X number of days" of Automobile Accidents.

How long do we shut down the entire nation for deaths by automobile?

How long do we shut down the entire nation for one Flu Season?

Good, shut it down twice as long then, for this one.

The issue has been that States were not ready, had not actually spent the money they had on Medical Supplies and Respirators, but squandered those monies on whatever crackpot idea the left was pushing, like Solar Panels, when there was money allocated for beefing up Hospitals "just in case of a pandemic".

Now, most States actually are ready, or should be ready in reality, since the losses suffered by those States who ignored adequate preparation before them.

Hospitals today have the supplies, or States have the supplies to back up the Hospitals of today, for the select patients with Corona Virus, who require ICU and Ventilators due to their otherwise impaired bodies, wracked with diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity when they "caught" the virus, and so many such morbidly obese, smokers or ex smokers, with out of control diabetes were and are unable to survive such a viral challenge. In any event, the Hospitals will not be overrun as happened in New York, the States to follow being aware of the consequences.

Automobile accidents are not comparable because they are caused by human error, and negligence.  You wont get in an accident just by standing too close to a person's car.  C-19 is contagious, bad driving or drunk driving is not.

How long do we shut down the entire nation for one Flu Season?

On average 13.7 million Americans get the flu each year with an average of 30,000 deaths.

As of today 1,065,000 confirmed cases with about 61,000 deaths.  If 13.7 million had covid-19 at the current rate 2.6 million people die from it.  Now if you say that not all the reported deaths were actually covid-19, then I'll ask if you can prove if all the flu deaths were actually caused by the flu.

I could be wrong though, dont know, put more effort into this post than I wanted to.  I'm going to get me a margarita  :emot_kiss:

Why do dummies on Fox and those who watch keep talking about the auto accident death rate as if auto accidents were highly contagious?

So, let me get this straight. Grocery stores will kick your ass out if you're not wearing a fucking bio hazard suit now? I don't think so. Not with the profit margins going on.

Beginning Friday, all Illinois residents over age 2 must wear a face mask when they can’t maintain a 6-foot social distance in public.

A death is a death is the point some are making, no matter the cause.
A mom unloading groceries from a 'private' Taxi in front of her apartment who is caught in the crossfire between two "crews" of students is a valued death, just as a ER worker found at the bottom of a staircase at her hospital, dead of some ailment she obtained at the facility where she worked... even steven... just as a baby thrown through the windshield of a car, when not in a approved child seat.

The death toll of the United States does not change due to cause of death, nor is the Government shut down because of a death from any cause except Corona... The lack of State preparedness for State Hospitals to treat heavy ICU demand, is the main cause of death for Corona patients.. that and fat, diabetic, high blood pressure among adults and some younger fat, diabetic, high blood pressure millenials.

States should buy essential supplies and equipment to protect the citizenry, as most State Legislatures instruct, and not preempt those purchased for some Green Deal nonsense, in an effort by some politicians to try and win votes.

If States want to buy windmills and solar farms, and other similar crackpot items, they need to SELL that to their own citizen voters, while spending those monies needed as necessary to maintain State Hospitals with equipment, and supplies, for such pandemic demands as may happen.

Well said Joan.
Vietnam and Korea had nothing to do with coronavirus and yet there are quite a few referring to the deaths of those wars along side this virus. These are the same idiots that call you and I hypocrites. True leftist dipshittery

So our governor has extend the stay at home edict until May 30th. When asked by a reporter at his daily news conference why the governor's wife and children left Illinois and flew to Florida, he told the reporter it was none of his business. Kind of a do as I say, not as I do philosophy I guess.

Watcher- Seems to be a thing. Obama was out golfing a few days before Michelle told people to stay home except to get medical attention or grocery shop.

Sometimes I get free stuff from my temp job that governor "billionaire Balloon" Prickster wants to be permanent because his goal is to destroy small business. Stuff that's about to expire, for example. I've been dropping stuff off at a small food pantry whenever I get anything I don't want to give to the kids. For some reason I've been getting a ton of apple juice. The girls don't even like apple juice, but they've been guzzling it anyway.  I also got a garbage bag full of unsold Easter candy, but a lot of it got donated. I kept a lot for the kids. Sugar can, sometimes, shut them up. Except for that Balmer garbage, it's not even real chocolate. I don't know why they even try to sell that shit.

There are people who are waiting there for something to be donated now. People who a month ago would have been the ones donating.

They've been doing something similar at the warehouse.  Every week they throw together a paper grocery bag with stuff in it. Last week was pop tarts, cool aid mixes, clorox wipes and some pasta-roni.  This week was cans of hormel chili, olives, some soup mixes, more pasta side dishes, and oyster crackers.  Not everybody grabs a bag so when I can I take an extra one.  Gave them all the my neighbors upstairs.  They've got a kid an are both out of work.

First it was shit paper, now it's meat. America: all for me and none for thee. Making the problem even worse by taking more than you need. Even if they put a limit on how much you can get, jackasses will go to every store they can find and get as much as they can for themselves.

US consumers rush to buy meat amid concerns over Covid-19 shortages.

It’s the herd mentality.  If your herd is a bunch of idiots.  I’ve lost even more respect for people during this pandemic.  Hoarding shit paper, while first responders suit up everyday to go try and save your grandparents’ lives.  You should be ashamed.

I went to the pharmacy yesterday.  Some redneck goon without a face mask was crowding a little grey haired lady in the wait line.  Literally leaning over her.  I said, “Hey, sir, please back up and maintain safe social distancing.”  I thought a fight was going to break out.

I am all for relaxing the shut-down, so long as the hospitals are not overwhelmed to the point that doctors have to choose between who lives and who dies (who gets a resperator/ICU bed, and who does not), and we guarantee our health care professionals have appropriate PPE.

In the meantime, we also have to figure out how to keep our most vulnerable as safe as possible.  People in high risk groups should not have to be forced back to work where they are likely to be exposed to COVID-19 and we have to address the nursing home problem.  We need to make work-at-home jobs available for them.

I think moving toward herd immunity is the best option at this point, but we need to keep our health care professionals and our most vulnerable as safe as possible.
