Heard through a friend that has a close relative in Washington that in the next 24-48 hours a National Emergency will be announced forcing all non-essential businesses to close.

I'm thinking it's tomorrow some time.   Likely before St Patricks Day in order to shut down gatherings in celebration.

Well at least I made it to Zushi Sushi before that happened.  Got my uni with a quail egg.

For the young and healthy dismissive of getting COVID-19 consider this scenario.  You recover sure, but you have scarring in your lungs and reduced lung function.  You still feel fine, so you dismiss that too.  But many years from now at the age of 70 you get the flu; it turns into pneumonia and you die.  Perhaps if you avoided COVID-19 you would have fought off that flu at 70 and lived to 95 feeling great well into your 90s.  You just cheated yourself and your your loved ones out of 25 years because of being careless in your youth.

I've veen diagnosed with multiple sclerosis so personally I'm not going to live much past 70 anyways and what life I do have wont be much. At least that's what I've been told. The only thing that truly worries me at all about this virus is if I do get it I do not want to pass it on.  That's it, I don't want to be the cause of somebody else getting sick.

Wait what?  Wow, who let this debby downer in here, get outta here.

Ok she's gone Shiela is back.

That’s the real reason a young person should give a shit my dear shiela, and good for you.  I was just pointing out a long term selfish reason.

The more immediate selfish reason is that if you end up in a bad car accident and are rushed to hospital it would be unfortunate if the intensive care resources you need to survive are all already in use by those with corona virus.

Unfortunately, many young people think they are immortal until they’re not.  I suppose I did too back then.

Yep. Shut CJ's income down.

Dang, Chirp. I was just going to take you downtown to a fancy restaurant and our governor decided to close restaurants and bars.   ;D  ;D

What if they close the grocery stores and we have to hunt for our food. I don't even know where tacos live.  ^-^

While the governor here has closed the schools, it seems child care centers are to remain open so that essential personnel that must work, such as nurses, can still have a safe place to leave their child.  I had been telling my Peruvian I would not let her go to work, but I had a hard time disagreeing with the governor’s logic.  So, she just kissed me goodbye and left for work.  They are to keep groups small and reduce all interactions to a minimum.

I now must babysit as well. Of course I don't blame the kids.

The shit paper apocalypse has gotten on my last nerve. I'm stressed to breaking point already.

By the time I probably get it things will have deteriorated to the point of patients in tents like we’re all in an extended episode of M*A*S*H.

Bread.  Went to the store yesterday and there was absolutely no bread.  My guess is that people are planning to wipe with that when their paper runs out :emot_laughing:

My grocery list for an excursion at some point this week includes stocking up on:
AP flour
Self-rising flour
Bread flour
Rye flour
Whole wheat flour
Yeast
Pumpkin seeds
Flax seeds
Oatmeal
Corn meal
Baking powder
I already got some of these things, just running low.

I got about one and a half loaves of multigrain bread right now and just made cornbread.  Guess what happens when my bread is gone?

In other news, I did a TP inventory:  ~24.5 rolls all bought last year at Costco.
A roll seems to last at least 3 days even taking into account two bathrooms and two poopers.  I’m good for a couple months.

As of this morning, a lot of New York City is closed down:

* All public schools are closed until April 20, and private schools have all followed suit
* My university, and all other colleges and universities in the city, are also closed
* All public institutions -- public libraries, museums, etc. -- are all closed
* Restaurants are only open for take-out and delivery only
* All churches and places of public worship are closed

I did my weekly food shopping on Friday evening, and in many parts of the store, the shelves were empty. The paper products area was completely empty, as were the bottled water and juice areas, along with areas with other shelf-stable items, especially pasta and canned goods.

The beer aisle was still fully stocked. I bought a 12-pack, while will last me for a while, and I still have about 2/3 of a large bottom of Jameson I got for Christmas.

More people will die from drug overdoses, drunk driving, gun violence and the flu. Where is the outrage because of these deaths or have we just come to believe that these deaths are acceptable and turn a blind eye ? As for the panic I lay the blame squarely at the feet of the media. They will do all they can to cause fear and spread panic. They do have their shareholders to think about. But what the coronavirus has done is really show how damn stupid the vast majority of the population is.

Drug overdose,  drunk driving, and gun violence is not contagious. They have their own battlefields.

The flu, even though deadly, has much more effective ways to fight it and prevent it.  Every year I get swamped by physicians pushing the flu shot on me.  Walk into walmart, Walgreen, or local grocery store without seeing flyers or banners pushing for shots.  I've gotten colds, but cant remember the last time I got the flu so bad I needed medical attention other than nyquil and bed rest.

However I do agree that the media has made things worse.  Perhaps if they just gave out need to known information instead of throwing all the panick shopping drama on top of it, it may be less...... idiotic... out there.

Down go restaurants and bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Pick up and delivery still allowed. No permits will be issued for groups of more than 50.

I decided to stay home today.  Temp was 98.9 when I woke up, but feel it is safest to have a 24 hour period of normal temperatures before I leave the house.

80% of those that get Corona virus get very mild symtoms or no symtoms at all.  I have no idea if I have it or not, but if I do, I don't want to pass it on to one of the 20% that get a bad case of it or the 2% that could die.

Ihave beer and enough TP to last a couple of weeks.  I wanted to get some paper towls though because I'm out.  Oh well, at least I have plenty of rags to use instead.

I don't know if I should be upset about bars closing right before St. Patrick's day, or grateful that it saved me from yet another hang over
