Kinda like Miss B, I thought all this virus crap was being overblown and over-hyped by the media. Something new to scare the little people with. I remember Bird Flu, Swine Flu and that great zero event Y2K. It was easy to lump this latest in with all the past "scares" that never occurred.
Now, I may be wrong. We'll see. I enjoyed seeing the NBA player at the end of a press conference touch all the mics and table on his way out of the room. Yep, he's the played that just tested positive...and that tape will live on for a long time.
This morning I got a text from the neighbor across the street. My wife makes doll clothes for all the kids in the neighborhood. Her son has a boy doll and wife made several new outfits for him to pick up. She tried calling to him the other day and he ignored her. Apparently he felt bad and told his folks. After watching TV, he was afraid he could be a carrier. (the TV said so) He was afraid to come see us and maybe infect the old people. They're trying to help their kids understand what's going on and put it in perspective.
I did text back and said I could don a hazmat suit, come over and drop the new doll outfits on their back porch with a hook.
Yeah, I used a smiley face so they'd know I was joking.
The young neighbor's concern for us brought up a memory for me. I was around his age when the polio epidemic broke out and kids were dying and being placed in iron lungs. I still see the pictures in my head. A friend and neighbor I played with got polio. I thought he was going to die. He didn't. He came through fine and without being crippled, like so many were. To this day, I still hesitate when using a public drinking fountain. That was one of the things we were told to avoid so as not to contract polio. Thank God for Dr. Salk who found the vaccine. Take heed, anti-vaxers.
Thanks for letting an old man ramble. Take care people, and stay safe.
