Refused my help

Last night the laundry room of our building was flooded  (some moron left something in the sink, which blocked the drain) and I had to do the laundry in place of my autistic son.
When I went down to switch from washer to dryer a teenage black girl showed up to collect her dry clothes.  She had a small basket and an overflowing dryer.  I offered my help, being that  if she dropped anything it would get sopping wet.
For whatever reason, she refused, and she ended up dropping at least two pieces of clothing into the flooded floor.  Oh well, you can be shy or scared or prejudiced against the older white man, but he was a gentleman who offered you help.  You should have taken it.  Oh, and by teenager in mean anywhere from 16 to 18.  Hard to  tell.  She was pretty, but my motives were pure.

The context is vague.  You don't know her, what her morning was like, how she feels about whites, darks, colors, the separation thereof, men, older men, laundry rooms, flooding...

There's a good chance that she just wasn't feeling friendly.  You can only offer.  Try not to take it personally when it's refused.

Jokes aside, all reasonable explanations, which I thought of and was expecting, but of course the walking talking rectum was there first thing to damn me straight to hell.  Hey, Toe, maybe I should go lock myself in a room somewhere. Better yet put a shotgun in my mouth. Would that please you?

It was just a random thing, without knowing enough about her situation to tell why she refused.  That's all it was, let it go.  You can try to make up some story, to make yourself feel better, or just stop obsessing over it.

Then you proceeded to state several reasons:

You have, by your own admission, no reason to believe your age, race, or sex had anything to do with it, nor can you assume that her refusal represented racism on her part.
