I was really rooting for the Lions this time. It was very strange to see my dad cheering them on.

After all the talk of the NFC North being the best division, all teams knocked out their first playoff game.

Dan was screaming at the tv. It usually makes me mad when he acts like that, but I was feeling the same way. We had such high hopes.  Such a let down.

And I had my Jared Goff jersey on. I tried cheering him up in bed after. No luck. Not very often I get a "Not tonight, Jules."

If the superbowl comes down to the eagles, and the chiefs, dad's not throwing a superbowl party. Hes just going to stay in bed. Hes hoping for Washington and buffalo.

At this point of the season, anything is possible. One of Philadelphia's losses was to Washington. One of Kansas City's losses was to Buffalo, but those were regular season games. With the conference championship on the line, it will come down to who wants it the most.

Washington hasn't been to a Super Bowl since 1992. The Bills haven't been since 1994. The Bills are the only team ever to reach the game four years in a row, but they never won it. One of the losses was to Washington. The only other team to make it to four games without winning one is Minnesota, and those games were not in consecutive years.

I'm with your dad. I'd love to see Buffalo and Washington play for all the marbles. Another week and we'll know which teams will be playing in Super Bowl LIX. Believe it or not, I've watched all 58 of the previous games on television. Yeah, I'm old.  ^-^

In case anyone is interested, there technically was not a Super Bowl I or Super Bowl II. Those games were simply called AFL-NFL Championship Game for the first two years. That was before the two leagues merged. The merger was announced on June 8, 1966 but the merger did not happen until the 1970 season, the year after Super Bowl III.

Super Bowl III was first game to be called the Super Bowl, before which the New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath boldly predicted this team would beat the (then Baltimore) Colts, who were favored by up to three touchdowns.

Namath carried out his promise, and the game has been called the Super Bowl ever since.

The first Super Bowl I remember sitting down and watching was Super Bowl V played at the Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami Florida on January 17, 1971. The Baltimore Colts defeated the Dallas Cowboys 16 to 13. That was the Dallas Cowboys first Super Bowl appearance. We were all pretty excited.

A Super Bowl record 11 turnovers in Super Bowl V, five alone in the 4th quarter. Regarded as the hardest hitting Super Bowl ever. The Colts had been part of the NFC but was transferred to the AFC after the merger.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are another team that switched from the NFL to the AFC after the merger.

I've spent most of my life trying to figure out how the two conferences came up with their alignment. Dallas in the NFC East? With New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC as the other teams, they couldn't figure out a team any closer than Dallas to add?

Fun fact, the NFC East is the only division where all four teams have won at least one Super Bowl. The division also leads all other divisions in total Super Bowl wins with 13. The AFC West is second with 10 championships.
