Will see how Speaker Pelosi's gambit works out, and I would like to see President Trump do his SOTU Address, in a Rally format, held in Rep. Pelosi's District, should her threat to 'disinvite' his Address stick.

Should be a suitably large arena in San Francisco, would imagine.

That would NOT be a State of the Union Address. It would be a political rally. Inappropriate.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

What union?  "Whelp, the government is still shut down, and we've got a race war brewing.  Still no wall."

Sad.

He only does rallies in areas where he has high support.  Do you imagine San Francisco is such an area?

I suppose he could bus people in, but then the Trumptards will be reminded that gay people live there and might decide to stay home (of course gay people live everywhere, they just live much more safely in San Francisco).

Well, as long as the president fulfills the requirements of Article II, Section 3, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution, he is free to deliver his analysis of the State of the Union wherever he wants, in whatever format he wants.

Then again, "Speaker Pelosi's gambit" was a mere suggestion. She did not "disinvite" the president, as conservative news outlets are phrasing it, nor did she bar the president from addressing Congress. Her exact words were:

Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29th.

It's worth noting that the Constitution simply states:

He [the president] shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.

Traditionally, and for the first 100+ years of the nation's existence, the president did exactly what Pelosi is suggesting: He delivered the State of the Union in writing to Congress. It was only in 1913 that President Wilson bucked the trend and delivered the address in person.

In other words, there's nothing at all outrageous about Pelosi's suggestion. She's simply asking the current president to follow the example of his illustrious predecessors, like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, and John Adams.

I notice he's not appearing at Selma, or El Paso.

I wonder how many in congress won't show up or will walk out on Trump during his speech......I doubt that this "State Of The Union" will go smoothly.

Love,
Liz

I kinda doubt it, considering the fact that he doesn't use speech-writers, and can't help ranting at random.  Not to mention his last speech was supposed to be about the Government Shutdown, and somehow turned out to be about nothing but his vanity project.

I wonder what he's going to talk about?

At least if someone yells out during his speach, ‘You lie!,’ that yell will be truthful.

Just watching his first SotU in 2018, and the standing ovation he got from half the room for saying "Make America Great Again, for ALL Americans."

I just have to appreciate the irony there.

Noted Leader Steny Hoyed, D-MD, worked to withdraw his comments about cancellation of Speaker Pelosi's invitation, itself extended during the current partial 'shutdown'.

Rep. Hoyer went further, explaining that Nancy's calling walls 'immoral', only applied to "a wall to keep people in", as a clarification, which is seen as positive reaching out, in this town... interesting, eh?

Whatever President Trump decides, regarding the time and date, and method to inform Congress, I fully hope he follows precedent and takes to the people, around the Country, more details and expectations as to the SOTU today, as compared to when he was Elected, and accepts the accolades accordingly.

Trump has a Twitter account.  He can continue to deliver his message that way.

Yes, but she can attend anyway.  This isn't like 2017, when the creepy uncle in chief didn't give a SotUA, this is a Joint meeting of Congress.  She has a seat in Congress (An important one, I'll get to later...)  They don't have to send an invitation, they can't just invite the people they want to attend, and exclude the Congress members they don't like.

She has a right, and duty to be there.  If he doesn't like it, then he can skip the SotUA, just like he did his first year.  She IS THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE.  Not just any Congress Person, if he, and Pence keel over dead of chaumurky from drinking the same fruit punch, she is the next in line for His seat, in the Oval Office.

She HAS to be there.

Do away with the State of the Union speech. In today's world, everyone already knows what state our Union is in.

I agree, and disagree.  The need for the speech was intended to be a briefing of the Legislature by the Executor.  With Radio, and then TV, they started televising it, and to a degree, it became an update for the voters, but nowadays we have so much disinformation (Not even assuming a lying cheat as the CEO) it would be more accurate to say that everyone Thinks they know what's going on, but some people think that the globe is a government conspiracy to hide the truth about the flat Earth, and the Egyptian Gods were white.

Just saying, the SotUA is pretty obsolete, but people believe what they want to believe, especially about something as symbolic as 'Merka!

I think we should have it.
if only for the reason to be able to pick it apart from the Lie's and the Truth (if any)  that he might espouse.
