CT - I find it hard to believe that at this level of play, these players cannot score a penalty kick , even with their eyes closed.  Some try to get too fancy and others are predictable so that the goalkeeper pretty much knows where the kick will be coming from.

I don't disagree, but you have to put yourself in the moment.

It was the Euro final, as many as a billion people worldwide were watching on TV, and the weight of the moment -- and the hopes of the nation for it to "come home" after about 55 years -- pressed upon them. Rashford's kicked missed by about one inch. And Saka, who''s still a teenager, faced almost unbearable pressure.

Thank you, Toe for increasing my level of trauma.

Unfortunately there was a family panic going on while the game was being played that wasn't resolved until the following day. While I was able to watch the game I wasn't able to concentrate on being upset about it.  Now I can cry properly.   :'( :'( :'(

My take on the game is that it was like the Denmark game in reverse, we either deliberately tried to contain Italy in the second half or they finally woke up and pinned us down so well we couldn't get out of our own half.  I don't think we deserved to win overall.  With regards to the penalty takers, yes they should be able to score easily and all do so in their respective leagues, however the pressure of a make or break situation in a major final can be unbearable. Remember that Italy missed two and one of them was taken by Jorginho, a supposedly penalty expert, I have to give credit to Pickford for great anticipation though.  Subbing Rashford on so late in the game shouldn't have made a difference to his penalty taking abilities; he did score in the shoot out against Colombia at the 2018 WC.  I Think it is a different matter for the 18 year old Saka, no matter that he himself has said he was ready and willing and, despite being a Chelsea fan, I feel sorry for the abuse he will no doubt get from the lunatic fringe at away matches for Arsenal next season.  Also the Italian goalkeeper is a 6' 7" giant, only the corners or sending him the wrong way will get past him.  Saka and Sancho placed their kicks far too conveniently for him.

Once again the match was spoilt for me by the boorish behaviour of the fans when the eyes of Europe (and some of the rest of the world) were upon them. I read today that our bid to be the European favourite to bid to be hosts for WC 2030 is in jeopardy because of the attempts (and with some success) by ticketless "fans" to get into Wembley. More  :'( :'( :'(

Welcome back MissB. For me Rashford's was the worst miss as having sent Donnarumma the wrong way he had all day to place his kick.

I was going to add, but decided not to, that after playing 120 plus minutes all the players were physically and mentally fatigued, which could have caused them to be off with their penalty kicks but then I remembered two English players who did miss were last minute substitutes.  Maybe Saka's nerves were a little jittery having Europe and the world watching...I am sure he will have many years to atone for his miss.

Spurs beat City, and they are now tied for the best record in the Premier League.

Life is good.

And didn't need Kane to do it.

On the broadcast I watched, they talked about Kane much more than any player who was actually in the stadium.

Without Kane, frees up Son to shine.

Perhaps.

But keep in mind that last season Son scored 17 goals, and Kane assisted on 10 of them.

Be careful what you wish for...

I enjoyed watching Kane because with the Spurs, he seemed to always be in position to receive a pass and shoot or pass to an open player. He had very good field presence.

Harry Kane Informs Tottenham Chief to Sanction Man City Move - Club Promised Forward Could Leave on Good Terms This Summer

Harry Kane has asked Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to allow him to leave Tottenham on good terms amid heavy interest from Manchester City, according to reports.

City are set to propose an upgraded offer for the 28-year-old this week, after Spurs declined an informal £100 million approach from the Manchester side for Kane in June.

The England captain believes that Daniel Levy has broken his promise of allowing Kane to leave Spurs this summer, with the north London club having failed to match the forward's ambitions of competing for major trophies on the domestic and European fronts.

Though the Premier League champions are waiting to see if Levy will accept their club-record bid to land Kane before the end of the month, it has been reported that Tottenham will not entertain any offers for their star man, who will continue to represent his current side in the most professional manner possible.

Interesting start so far... I always thought Messi would retire at Barcelona, so seeing him with another team is strange, and even though Ronaldo is not the youngest anymore (well, in soccer terms 😉 ) I didn't expect him to return to Man United.

I watched the ManU-Wolves match and they mentioned Ronaldo should be playing with ManU in a couple of weeks.  They should play him as soon as possible. ManU didn't look sharp against a very pesky Wolve's team.

Man U's midfield needs reinforcement.  They were linked with Camavinga. He would be a great signing, and someone like Matic would be a great mentor for him.

I don't know why they keep Fred - he has a diabolical first touch.  In fact, I can honestly say, I think only Michael Jackson had worse.

I read this morning that Ronaldo's first match with Man U will be the 9/11 match against Newcastle (after the international break).

And for the first time in history Spurs are top and Arsenal bottom simultaneously.
