One of the announcers of today's Everton - ManU match said that ManU, which lost today 1 - 0, has some talented players but no team cohesiveness. I pretty much agree with his analysis.

Who was that team playing Southampton today and what have they done with my Chelsea?

They piss me off. Talented players, but they don't know how to play together, and they often don't seem to really care either. Then after every loss they act upset and claim they need to do better... only for the same shit to happen the next match.

I remember when Ole took over and for the first few months they seemed like they couldn't get a bad result even if they tried. Then, near the end of the season, they started slipping, and though the current team is even better on better, the inconsistency and poor results have been a consistent problem since then. But how well they played those first few months shows that their problems are mental and a case of lacking determination.

At least my Derpcastle won yet again and are all but guaranteed to stay up for next season.

Their backs passing the ball in front of their own goal when the other team has players in the box just drives me crazy. In fairness, though, I am seeing this more and more in professional football.

A shout out to MissB's Spurs for a decisive win Saturday.  Adding the Juventus player to the front line makes them that much stronger and lethal.

That's the modern way of professional football. I remember football coaches when I was a teenager telling us "never, ever, pass across your own penalty area".  Football fans would always shout "get rid" as soon as a defender received the ball.  Even goalkeepers these days are expected to be good with the ball at their feet although Mendy of Chelsea has made two horrific mistakes playing out to defenders recently, only one of which was punished by the opposition.

I think that's one of the reasons that Ederson replaced Pickford, because Pep wanted a keeper who could be good with the ball at his feet

Same here with me when I was playing, Obi.  We would get on our backs for that. Always play the ball forward we were taught. Goalkeepers were instructed to kick towards the touch lines so if we didn't get the ball, neither would the other team except for the throw in which bought us time.

Wasn't it Joe Hart that Pep replaced for that reason?

Yup, I have a bad tendency to confuse Hart and Pickford, and I have no idea why  :emot_laughing:

The Ricketts family will no longer be bidding to purchase the Chelsea football club.

An earlier post discussed how players today roll around under the slightest challenge and if today's rules were applied the 1970 FA Cup Final would have ended as a five a side game.  I started to watch the Paul Gascoigne documentary on TV and was reminded of his two very rash challenges in the FA Cup Final (Spurs v Notts Forest), both of which deserved a red card. One challenge was a foot to the chest and the second was a scythe from behind. Incredibly both Forest players just got up and walked away.

Interesting article. I agree with you he should have been carded for a high boot. And if not for that, then the take down from behind. As in many sports, being a top rated player does have its privileges.

I think in general, all sports’ rules have become more red card intensive. Because were starting to understand the nature of repetitive trauma and closed head injuries. The stuff that people used to do to each other on the field is indefensible today, in light of modern medicine and science. It’s also why we now have a 44 year old American footballer quarterback considered highly competitive.  In the old days he would’ve been dead by now. LOL.

Wait, did you say 44 year old football?  Umm, so I'll do the post-mortem examination if it were to happen.
Hmmm, giving me an idea for a necrophilia story.
Maybe I'll write it and post it for halloween.

Maybe he got ahold of some of Allan’s blue pills, and died from a painful erection that lasted more than four hours. I’m sure our Jules would volunteer to do the post mortem on that!

All these articles about Ten Hag are interesting. Is he the man for the job? Is he experienced enough? Can his tactics work?

Uhm, I think it's pretty much dependent on how much deadwood the owners are willing to clear out
