Spurs and West Ham play tomorrow, and barring a draw, one of them will be in 5th by the end of the match, pushing Man U down to 6th.

COYS!

Son and Kane. Great tandem. Well played match. Congratulations,  MissB

Manchester United are prepared to sell club captain Harry Maguire this summer according to new reports.

United are preparing to sell a number of players this summer.

It has now emerged that club captain, Maguire may be one of the players that United will be trying to offload.

Maguire has come under fire for the majority of time he has been at United as pundits and supporters alike agree that he may not be up to the standards of the club.

Good luck getting more than a fiver for him.

Whoever the new coach will be will need balls of steel.  That player-coach power dynamic is so badly skewed it's ridiculous.

Sounds like Abramovich was poisoned. You'd think Putin would come up with something more original by now

According to one report I read (UK Independent), Ukrainian officials at the same talks are downplaying it and asking people not to believe unverified reports.

Yeah, I noticed all the articles I found were citing a Wall Street Journal report as their source, and the WSJ report was citing "people familiar with the situation" as its source.

I feel like poisoning Abramovich would be too obvious to make sense, but then again, before the invasion I was also downplaying warnings of the invasion, thinking an invasion would not make sense, so... don't listen to me  :emot_laughing:

A big win for Spurs today. They trounced Newcastle 5-1.

More Important, they're now in 4th place and in Champions League contention.

They're tied with Arsenal but ahead in goal differential, and Man U has slipped to 7th place (sorry, Watcher).

The United States will be in the World Cup for the first time in 8 years.

And they are now in England's group in the World Cup. Our record against the USA in World Cups is not good.

England
USA
Iran
Scotland or Wales or Ukraine

It may not be the group of death but it will certainly be the group of political rivalries and animosity (unless Ukraine get through).

I watched the overblown farrago of the draw live on TV; at least they didn't make the same sort of mistakes made during the the draw for the round of 16 for the Champions League.  It took almost an hour for just the draw, mercifully the BBC did not show the opening ceremony.

(desperately trying to forget a certain result from Saturday's Premier League)

Okay, help the non--soccer fans.  (Of course I could look it up, but...)

When does US play?  Where can I watch?

Since the first World Cup was played in 1930, the tournament has been held in June and.or July, a time when none of the dmoestic professional league are playing (except for the MLS). Over the past few decades, it has run from mid-June to mid-July. Other international tournaments -- like the Euros. Copa America, Gold Cup, etc. -- are also held during this time frame.

However, in December 2010, FIFA decided to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar, a tiny but enormously wealthy nation on the Arabian Peninsula. I won't go into all the details regarding corruption, bribery exploitation of workers, etc. However, the average daily temperature in Qatar in July is 110 F (about 44 C). As a result, the tournament was moved from July/August to November December.

So, the 2022 World Cup will be played in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022. It will be broadcast in English in the U.S. by FOX Sports, along with its sister networks and streaming services.

I think ManU could even beat Newcastle this year.  Arsenal plays today, Monday, and on Sunday, ManCity vs Liverpool, the two best teams in the EPL.

The awarding of both 2018 and 2022 World Cups was a result of bribery and corruption.  I believe all the 6 stadiums will be air conditioned because of the heat even in December.

Our newspaper called the meeting on the 25th between England and the USA as Black Friday.  Why is it called that?

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, one of the busiest shopping days because of very high discounts offered by retailers.
I think there’s more information here. The History Behind Black Friday

OK. Thanks. I knew what Black Friday was as it pertained to shopping but thought it may have meant something football-related to the England team.

Watcher, it's a reference to the Black Friday shopping day -- the Friday after Thanksgiving.

That reference only appears in U.S. sources about the match.

If  Man U appoints Steve McClaren as Assistant Manager I hope they get relegated to the Vanarama
