Congratulations, Obi. Chelsea played a great match. Their defense frustrated ManCity.
Shout out to Christian Pulisic. He became the first American footballer to play on a European Championship team!
And while he didn't enter the match, another American, Zack Steffen, plays for Man City.
I was thinking of ODK while watching the match yesterday -- especially during those nail-biting 7 minutes of stoppage time.
This isn't a correction, but Chelsea's defense didn't frustrate City, they completely stifled them. If I were giving the Man of the Match Award, I would have given it to Kante. He's the reason Chelsea won the trophy.
I've not replied earlier because of being in a complete state of euphoria. Thomas Tuchel - I want your babies.
Whereas the 2012 win in Munich was an act of larceny by a great team that were about to disband, in Porto Chelsea were the better team. Guardiola's tactic of not playing a midfield enforcer and trying to swamp Chelsea with attacking players backfired on him because the defence and Kante in particular were immense. Kante was also my man of the match and I believe he was officially as well. Apparently he lost his virginity once but recovered it straight away.
Werner did his usual impression of trying to hit everything except the back of the net, although he does make good decoy runs. Pulisic should really have made it 2-0. Can't condone Rudiger's cynical bodycheck on De Bruyne, though, sad to see a great player leave the field like that.
A great day for West London because Brentford were promoted to the Premier League earlier the same day.
