Yeah, I saw that over at Extreme Restraints. They seem popular.

If and when I ever needed to use a porta potty, I would always freak out about spiders and snakes, now I have to worry about freaking bears.

I worked construction for years, and still have the “port-a-potty stance.”  No sense in putting your sensitive bits down near the waterline.  😂😂😂

I read about this too.  I’m always amazed at how ‘casual’ and ‘matter-of-fact’ Alaskans are about bear encounters, the same way some Floridians are about alligator encounters. I’d shit myself, but then she was in the right place for that.

Once in the Laurel Fork Wilderness Area in WV I had a black bear huffing outside my tent in the night.  I hit the inside of the tent with my hands and yelled until it went away.  I was young and not that experienced at backpacking then and realized I violated a cardinal rule of having my food inside with me instead of hanging in a nearby tree.  Although by now I’ve probably spent 30-40 nights in that Wilderness area and never really take any strict bear precautions the way I do out west or even a few years ago in Tennessee.  There’s something about the familiarity of that place that makes me feel safe.  Under the right (or wrong) circumstances a black bear will definitely kill and even eat you, but I don’t have the fear of them the same way as I do a grizzly.

Unlike my youth and those first backpacking trips, I do carry a gun these last couple decades.  Just afraid a .45 or .44 slug would just piss off a grizzly.

I used to just worry about mountain lions when hiking out in the country side (yes I deliberately avoided using the word cougar) but now I've got to bring bear mace in case I need to use the bathroom.

Mrs ODK and I came acoss a black bear with two cubs on the Appalachian trail (no, we weren't hiking it, just stopped by at a viewpoint).  I quickly realised that I didn't have to run faster than the bear, just faster than Mrs ODK.

Somebody get me my slinky.

Getting vertigo just looking at the picture.  Really who in their right mind looks at a sheer rock face and thinks, you know, that's the perfect place for some stairs...

The camera does lie.  If the rock was vertical there could not be steps cut into it without the tread sloping excessively. And the horizon at the top left is at an angle.

Still too hairy for my taste though.

Australia flooding is causing spiders to seek shelter in homes.  Saw a video of this guy walking past his fence.  It supposed to be white, but its black with spiders.

Find this in your bedroom.

Or you reach for your car door

This is why Australia is way off by itself, the rest of the world said we dont want all that, and pushed it away.

If it starts with "Florida man" or "meanwhile in Australia" you know it's going to be disturbing.

A lot of the pests are starting to come up because of rising water levels. I'm lucky where I live in that the river is very deep down, so flooding is rarely an issue; basically, if the soccer fields go under (since they go near the underside of a bridge over said river), that's the point where you can legitimately go, "Fuck, it might actually flood." This is also followed by the first evac: whoever lives in the house down by the fields.

Thankfully, I've not been too worried, since I'm high up, but the mice!

Is Army of one saying he is afraid of mice? ;D. It's the rats one has to be afraid of. And the snakes, when flooding drives the snakes out of their holes. I think Australia is home to four or five of the top ten poisonous snakes in the world.
