So I had finished and posted another part to a story I had been writing. And a member contacted me via PM, and pointed out a few things that needed correcting. I've zero problem with this and actually appreciated. Anything to make my stories read better, I'm good with that, but one of his corrections is something that really pushes my buttons.  Apart of the message was

Usually God is capitalized, even by us pagans.

Why in the same hell is god always capitalized? Even autocorrect tries throwing on a capital g when I type it out, yet if I were to type out Goddess with a lower case g... not a damn thing happens in autocorrect, and nobody seems to mind. So I deliberately give god the lower case and Goddess... well you get it.

Using Amazon more for shopping for odds and ends we need around the house. So much easier than going to local stores only to find it's out of stock.

So... while Amazon delivery is fast and free, why the heck do they send me emails advertising the very same item I just bought? It's all being run by bots, but if the can shoot Bezos into space for a joy ride, why can't they hire smarter bots?!? :emot_banghead: :emot_banghead: :emot_banghead:

In hate online shopping, it's killing brick and mortar stores. Oh,and the reason they are "out of stock" with things is because it's in a massive warehouse somewhere waiting to be ordered... online.

Try Literotica if you want capitalization, spelling and grammar corrected.

Someone there said my spelling, grammar and punctuation were bad but I still don't know how to write: "AUGGH yess oh oh oh fuckkkk yessss do it do me fuck me yes yes yes" correctly.

Try me...

My favorite is when you buy something that you could only possibly need one, and you get a ‘Buy it again!’ message a week later.

It’s one of the reasons I refuse to do Amazon Prime.  I only buy at Amazon or online in general if I know I can’t get it locally.  Admittedly during this pandemic I did increase my online shopping just to avoid going in stores.  I’m mostly back to normal in my shopping.  Last things I bought online were a flexible dog cone after she wore out the first one and a food dehydrator because it was impulse buying and I decided I didn’t want one from Walmart.  I got a bunch of cayenne peppers to dry, and drying on the window sill is taking 3 weeks.

Usually god or goddess is more of a job title than a proper noun, such as the Greek goddess Athena or the Norse god Odin. But since Christians believe there is only one god, the God, for them it's both the job title and a proper noun.

Still, autocorrect shouldn't automatically capitalize the G, since it doesn't know whether you're talking about a god or the God.

..and sadly, goddess is never a proper noun, because none of the monotheistic religions were smart enough to make their supreme being a woman  :'(

There's a big self storage place in lower Manhattan, and they have a huge sign on the side of the building. It has their name, and a rotating "joke."

Some of the "jokes" are funny, some are head-scratching, and some are stupid.

And then there's this one, which I saw a couple of days ago:

"Manhattan apartments have tiny closets, but out kids aren't afraid to come out of them."

WTF?!?

I'd love for that "joke" writer to have a conversation with an actual kid who has come out, and tell that kid how easy is is to come out, and how unafraid they were to come out.

What a steaming crock of shit!

God is capitalized when it is a proper noun name, like Bob or Jane.  I give God the credit.

God is not capitalized when it is a ordinary noun.  He thinks he is a god.

Two appropriate references from Ghostbusters:

Ray, do you believe in God?
Never met him...

Then later
Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god you say YES!

If you want a real rant about capitalization, tell a civil engineer it's the Greenwich meridian not the Greenwich Meridian.

To confuse them even further, tell them the British themselves named it the Prime meridian (small "m:'), and not the Greenwich meridian, and today longitudinal and time calculations are no longer referred to as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) but as Universal Time (UTC).

GMT/UTC is also referred to as z or zulu time in weather forecasting and by airline pilots.

Actually, I didn't fully answer your question.

The simple answer is Greenwich is the name of a city in the U.K., and it should be capitalized. Meridian is a geographical designation, and it need not be capitalized.

OK, now we get into the grammar geek category, but I have to ask if the word meridian is part of a proper name for a specific meridian, wouldn't you then capitalize meridian as part of the proper name?

For example, states are just geographical designation but United States is considered a proper name of a country consisting of states.

No, I'm not looking for a debate or to be right or wrong, I just like learning about grammar.
