Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul with a voice that influenced a generation of singers, dies aged 76. RIP.

I shed several tears earlier when I heard that.

20 years ago, I was bopping along in a grocery store checkout line with the headphones on, listening to Aretha belt out "Freeway of Love".  I was REALLY rockin' the tune!   :emot_dancing:  The cashier asked what I was listening to, so I told her.  She replied "Who's Aretha?"  She was probably early 20s and black, so I figured she must have been raised by ignorant rich white folks.  How else do you explain someone that's never heard of The Queen of Soul?

They played that one on the alternative station I listen to on the way home, and the volume hit 11 during the song.  :emot_kiss:  Bye, love!

Remember the Golden Rule: you do me, and I\'ll do you (paraphrased)

She had a sound that can never be duplicated.  We've lost so many of the greats like her.  There's no way I can hear the word "respect" without thinking of Aretha and hearing the music in my head.  Talk about owning a word!

When I look and listen to today's artists I wonder if there's anyone out there that will be remembered as the Queen, Aretha Franklin.

Well trained and been made compliant....by my cat Neville
