That doesn't seem like rebuilding or unifying anything, it seems more like drawing a line in the sand and demanding conformity...which will push people away.
And I'm speaking from experience, before 2018 I was on the left...and they ate me when I went Hillary instead of protest voting. Now that fraction has become the vocal minority of the left, and violently so.
I agree with you.
Forcing people to conform in an age where individual expression without repercussions is advocated for is going to leave many people confused and cause them to walk away from being a "die hard democrat"
The DNC needs to find or reestablish its identity.
I would not be surprised if there is a split within the party and you end up with a 3 party system again for a while, similar to when the Whigg party still existed.
Its an unlikely possibility, but a possibility non-the-less.
Protest voting has never made sense to me.
No candidate is ever going to be perfect, but villianising you for not voting Trump (or independent) because he was not running against Sanders is daft.
While Clinton's goals and focus were different from that of Sanders, some of her underlying values and beliefs would have been the same so voting for her after she won the DNC nomination over Sanders makes sense.
I'll admit that I dont know enough of the intricacies regarding US politics to make profound statements and engage with you (IrishGirl) with the same zeal and passion that you clearly have, but there are obvious issues that need to be addressed which is why the GOP will win again in 2020.
Yes there are some polarizing issues.
But there are issues that are also being used to polarize people that shouldn't be.
If anything, Trump being elected has shown people how delicate the political landscape in the US is.
