I think we all have a story about a creepy teacher on the make for students.  Most of us have more than one.

Yeah I had one story about an Indian HS student in the US having her strict culture used against her by two teachers to keep her quiet.  I never got around to finishing it despite being bugged frequently by an Indian girl and a Pakistani girl to write more.  Seems those girls identified with the female character.

I don’t know of anything happening at my HS, but I recall an incident where a teacher seemed to be engaged in a ‘good natured’ tussle with a female student.  She was large breasted, and I distinctly saw him staring at her tits while they were tugging on each other’s arms.  She was a freshman in HS at the time, so probably 14.  I even recall her name.

My high school principal left his wife, quit his job, and ran off with a high school senior.  Age of consent is 17 in Texas, and there was no law against teacher student sex back then.  We just all wrote it off as a bit of small town scandal.  Hopefully times are changing.

I’m sure they lived happily ever after.

I worked in and for the Republican Party for a decade, and have been active in Democratic circles for the past 30. I have to say that sex (rape) and politics are inextricably interlinked.  People who lust for power tend to lust for other things as well.  Any time you pack a bunch of ambitious people into a hotel reception area, add alcohol, and God knows what else, it’s a recipe for problems.  I was a legal “fixer” in my youth, assigned the messy job of “find[ing] out what the hell they want” to make indiscretions go away.  And I left the Republican Party over just one such “indiscretion” involving the rape of some young men by a well known party operative.  No solutions in mind.  Just thinking out loud here.  I’m not surprised.

Good thing the Republicans shut down the country so that Obama didn't overstep his term, and nominate too many Justices!  Is it a record now?  For the highest turnover in 2 years?

Can we just go ahead, and Impeach his ass now?  What are we waiting for, an invitation engraved in stone, from God?  "Thou Shalt Not Worship a Golden Calf.  America, I'm talking to you."

The irony, of saying to avoid sexual assaults, by avoiding Alcohol.  Considering he's replacing justice "I like beer" Kavahellnah.

Huh!  In retrospect, a lot of elements form Singer's films kind of hinted at the sort of subconscious ideation which drives people like John Wayne Gacy.

Not just the opening scene in Auschwitz, but also the opening scene of The Usual Suspects, where the cast are arrested, wrongly accused, and bond over the experience.  Before being blackmailed by a liar/traitor in their midst, not to mention the flashback where Kaiser Soze recalls murdering his entire family when his crimes came home to haunt them.

He spoke of it as a demonstration of his "Will."  However, it's also consistent with a Family Annihilator.  Also, playing lame duck to put his victims off guard, and not see him as a threat was a favorite tactic of Ted Bundy.  (As copied by Jame Gumb in The Silence of the Lambs.)

Derrick Rose exposes our toxic role in the sports redemption narrative

Quote
The coverage of Rose’s night showed the lengths that many will go to avoid a moral reckoning with the athletes who they want to applaud. The importance of sports gets pushed so high that real-world situations are forced into the background, eventually becoming a footnote in the greater sports story, if not invisible altogether.

The cycle of conversation and redemption for problematic athletes is so rehearsed that it doesn’t even need the participation of the athlete to be fulfilled. It works like this:

As soon as an athlete is accused, the victim is blamed for their accusal. If they’re a woman, they’re slut-shamed, and whatever the athlete is accused of is reduced to a “mistake”. A teachable moment. Then, it’s suggested that the athlete is as flawed as the rest of us, thus worthy of forgiveness, and that it would be hypocritical not to find forgiveness in our hearts. The argument goes that we should be able to separate the athlete from the person, which conveniently sets the stage for the athlete to be redeemed even as their transgressions are surfacing. As soon as the situation occurs, we’ve already begun moving on.

After the rash of arguments about the flawed nature of humans, all the athlete has to do is have a defining moment or series of games, after which it can be claimed that the athlete has finally overcome the error of their ways. If the athlete isn’t convicted of the crime that they were accused of, then that can be used as a shield to keep away any criticism, regardless of the details of the case or the well-documented issues with the justice system.

And that’s how we end up with Petersen saying, “And to my estimation, he’s not been convicted of anything ... But what he is, he plays hard.”

When that’s done, so is any concern about what the athlete was accused of, and the complexity of a good athlete possibly doing terrible things. The athlete is forever redeemed as long as they’re good at their sport.

Kobe Bryant is a classic example of this rebranding. After he went through the process of his 2004 rape case, he remade himself into “The Black Mamba”, a new identity he gave himself that played into his controversial image. He leaned into the villain role. Not only were the media and fans happy to ignore this link between his identity and the case, they helped him rewrite the story. He was successful in changing who he was publicly, because the sports world was eager to assist.

Rose didn’t take an active role in rewriting his story, but the machine went on without him. Now he’s at the permanently redeemed stage, where he is being championed to make the NBA All-Star Game (he’s the fan vote’s No. 2 guard in the West, behind Stephen Curry and ahead of James Harden) and profiles of him are being written without the word “rape” (though making sure to mention “adversity”).

Quote
Rather, we engage in a willful and engineered blindness. There’s no difficult conversation that might lead to a standard on what we’re willing to accept from our favorite athletes. What we have instead is an abdication of that personal responsibility to preserve comfort.

^That is a legal definition, for the Legislative, and Judicial branches.  The Executive branch can try, but has exactly 0 power to do so.
