Hey all!  Working my way back now after one busy summer.

My reflections:  Our President has no clue as to how to be tactful in anything. When he should be quiet, he tweets or says something that either aggravates a situation or, more seriously in my opinion, divides an already divided country. Plus, he is also alienating his own party.

If any one has not seen the Ken Burns 10 part documentary on Vietnam, I would very highly recommend it as it shows how our "leaders", whether Democratic or Republican, continuously lied to the American public and how it compares to what we have and are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Remember, Samuel Boswell is quoted as saying that "patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" and we sure have a lot of "patriots" in Washington, DC.

Welcome back, Watcher!

I haven't seen the Ken Burns video, but I have seen many lies that have been and are being told to us. When will it ever end?

I started this some while ago reflecting the UK perspective, expecting a lot of abusive replies. However, no-one seemed to disagree!

Looking back I now have to change my view somewhat. Despite all his erratic actions, at least he puts the USA first. Contrast that with our wimpish, gutless 'leaders' whose idea of trade negotiations appears to be going in waving a white flag of surrender.

Our President has no clue as to how to be tactful in anything.

He doesn't seem to have the emotional impulse control to learn anything, before whatever negative kneejerk response gets triggered, and he snaps straight to judgement.  Then, he's so self assured that he's right, that he'll stubbornly cling to that emotion (Hate, disgust, fear) despite any evidence to the contrary.

Which is why (I believe) he doesn't really have a clue about anything.  He doesn't think about stuff.  He just barks, because something went bye his fence too fast to see whether it was a squirrel, or a little kid's ball rolling across the lawn.

He's an old dog, and so myopic that everyone looks like the Mailman.

They learned waving the white flag from Neville Chamberlain.

What is with the ongoing vilification of Chamberlain?  He did exactly what I would expect any honorable world leader to do - tried his best to avoid war until it was certain that war was inevitable.

I always felt he got a bad rap.  Hitler was a moving target, who just became more of a monster over time.  It’s not fair to say “Chamberlain should have known,” because I don’t think anyone could have envisioned what lay ahead.

MI6 dropped the ball. Chamberlain couldn’t know that the Germans and Soviets were planning on doing a partition of the Eastern lands, much less that the Nazis were actually going to try to accomplish their imperial designs from the turn of the century.

Chamberlain knew he didn’t have the support of the country to go to war. His hands were tied and he made the best deal he could have under the circumstances.

Chamberlain believed Hitler when Hitler said he was only going to annex the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia in 1938 because he wanted to incorporate the many Germans living there into the Fatherland. It could be, like Katie wrote, that Allied intelligence dropped the ball for their failure to see the militarization of Germany but Chamberlain's name is not well liked in Czechoslovakia for his action.

The German Army was generating through training and tactical and strategic philosophy, the means to prosecute a war. MI6 ignored that. They ignored Guderians writings. They ignored the German General staff. A major lapse in intel gathering.

Okay, but once again, we're blaming England this time, for Nazis being Nazis.  Am I the only one who sees a little hypocracy in America saying "Why didn't somebody do something, and stop them?"  When they didn't get involved until after they already took over Europe, and their allies attacked Hawaii.  After a year of London being bombed constantly, because all of our World War II scenarios involved us going to war with Briton.

I'm sure Chamberlain should have stopped them.  Or maybe France.  Since historically, they've always been able to do that before, without our belated help.

When it's people who stand around, and say "Why don't people do something" until it's far too late, it's called the Bystander Effect.  Hindsight is 20/20.

It’s not blaming them, it’s recognizing that they missed an opportunity to understand what was recognized as a significant hostile government. The apology is Trump with Russia. He is ignoring intel and trusting his “gut”. T This is not what happened with Chamberlain. He didn’t have the base intel to indicate the intentions of the German government.

Even if he had, it is unlikely that there would have been the polictial support in Great Britain and France to militarily oppose the Germans at that time.

LOL!  Right, like he's not sweeping his dealings with them under the rug, along with their atrocities in Georgia, and the Ukraine.  That's not an Apology, the word you're looking for is Collusion.
