Having seen Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, Mrs Obi and I decided to re-watch the 1980 BBC version starring Sam Waterston.  Thought it was still very good and that the persecution of Oppenheimer was slower paced and better expounded than in the film.  Note to self - must get a copy of "Nuclear Fission & Atomic Bombs For Dummies"

Several years ago I read the book "The Making of the Atomic Bomb," which covers a lot of the material in the movie. It's a doorstop (around 800 pages), and most of the physics went right over my head. But it was informative and compulsively readable.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016). It’s a romcom on FreeVee. Starring Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick.

I wasn’t expecting much, but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t side splitting funny. Because it was just so over-the-top. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any raunchier and inappropriate, it would totally take it to the next level. The whole movie was this way. You were just watching in abject horror, laughing your ass off. Think Wedding Crashers squared.

Dave Stangle : What's a push-pop?
Mike Stangle : I made it up, Dave. It's a sexual term that I just made up.
Dave Stangle : What's a push-pop?
Mike Stangle : I don't know.
Dave Stangle : What's a push-pop!
Mike Stangle : I don't know!
Dave Stangle : WHAT'S A PUSH-POP?
Mike Stangle : I've been to the bowels of the internet and I've never seen a push-pop.
Dave Stangle : God, just tell me, what's a push-pop?
Mike Stangle : It's a whole hand up an ass, David. Is that what you want me to say?
Dave Stangle : Oh... Oh, God!
Mike Stangle : Two hands! Two hands pushing the pop! Pushing the pop! Is that what you want me to say? I'll send you some links.

The massage scene. LOL:

Are you okay with oil?
Yeah, sure.
(MOANS) You know, in my country...
they call oil "God's beautiful lubricant."
It sounds better in my language.
Khuda ka khubsurat lubricant.
Oh, that's lovely.
'Kay.
Some ground rules.
One, no emotions.
Okay.
Two, breathe.
Ahh... (GASPS)
Three, there is no penetration,
only vibration.
(JEANIE MOANING)
What is happening?
I call this "The Bent Penguin."
This one is just "The Ham and Eggs."
This one is called "When Moons Collide."
"Angry Hummingbird." "Angry Hummingbird."
This one is called "House by the Airport."
Just checking in. Everything good?
Hope you're enjoying this.
For me, it's just another Friday.
(MOANING ECSTATICALLY)
(SIGHS DEEPLY) "Happy Doll."
This one is just called "Taking a Break." I am pooped.
A little break. That's nice.
(BOTH YELLING)
Here we go again.
(MOANING)
Are you even touching me?
No, but my aura is.
Yes, it is!
Sweet baby Jesus!

I cant do it anymore. After episode 5 of The Wheel of Time, I cant watch it anymore.

I've already talked about what they did to Perrin by having him kill a wife he shouldn't have had, but then there is Mat who instead of a cocky headstrong mischievous person, they made him a sniveling whiner.

I started to dislike the path of moraine and Lan, and then they make two characters evil when they shouldnt be, but what moraine did to the horse is the straw that broke the camel's back. Not only did they not need to show it, but there was no need to do it to begin with.

There was a lot of things that I enjoyed about this show, including Ceara Coveney, the actress playing the daughter-heir Elayne Trakand pushing to overtake Kate Beckinsale as my one and only, but my issues with this show are getting too numerous.

I've started watching 3 times.  Dan right along with me.  And we just fade away from it.

We both read the full series. Neither of us can get into the show.

We are cracking up at ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING.   I love Steve Martin.   Martin Short is funny as heck.  I've always been a fan of Selena.  We have been binging.  Now on S3, E2.

Halfway through "Love And Death" starring Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad & TV Fargo 2) and Elizabeth Olsen (don't know much about her but definitely one for the WCWYLTF thread).  Very good, never heard of this real life murder case before.

TIL Elizabeth Olsen is the little sister of the famous Olsen Twins.

I’d like to swim in that gene pool.

I watched Cream: Disraeli Gears, part of the "Classic Albums" series.

All three members of Cream and many of the people involved in the writing and production of the album were still alive in 2006 and interviewed for the documentary.

There were so many "I didn't know that" moments that my head is still reeling from information overload.

In those days I was too poor to buy a record player, let alone a copy of the album. Fortunately an American friend had brought over his Magnavox stereo set and had copies of both Fresh Cream and Disraeli Gears. A bunch of us would gather in his flat in <gasp> Chester Street, right behind Buckingham Palace, and groove to the sound of Cream and other bands.

I never got to see Cream live, but I did see Blind Faith and was at the Hyde Park concert at which they made their debut: Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Steve Winwood, and Ric Grech.

The first three seasons are good. They keep the story line moving and the characters interacting well with each other.

Like most shows of the type the "woo-woo" factor starts getting silly. Go ahead and finish the first season Obi. I think you'll enjoy that.

Thanks Ms.  I understand that NBC cancelled it after three seasons (6 were planned and presented by the author) and when Netflix licensed it it became such a hit they commissioned a fourth and final season. However Netflix can't show seasons 2 & 3 in the UK until the current NBC licensing expires.

That's odd. Ran into something like that on Amazon Prime. We've been watching "Sanctuary" with Amanda Tapping. (Stargate)

Finished season 2 and we were sent to season 4. Found out season 3 required us to pay for it. The other three seasons were free

I had a crush on Melissa Roxburgh

I got tired of watching Manifest for the same reason that I got tired of watching Lost. After a while, the basic premise does begin to seem silly, and the plot line no longer makes sense.

In fact, Manifest is basically Lost, if the lost plane had landed five years later without explanation.

That's what occurred to me. My OCD manifests itself (see what I did there) as a need to complete any series no matter how pathetic.  I persevered with Lost.

I never saw Band of Brothers back in the day, because I stopped paying for HBO, Showtime, and Starz many many years ago. But I do have Netflix, and BoB is available now. Watched all ten episodes this week. It’s been called one of the most realistic war films ever. Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg were the executive producers. Highly recommended.

Ron Livingston from Office Space is in it. LOL. He doesn’t kill the fax machine in this one.

It was on public TV in the UK a while ago.  Great series.

Captain Nixon was particularly fond of Vat 69, a blended Scotch whisky produced by Diageo in Scotland. Reports are that sales of Vat 69 skyrocketed in the US as a result. Reviews say it has upfront malty, heather sweetness, and a lovely peat smoke savoury finish. May have to try some.

VAT 69  was popular when I was young and didn't like whisky, also long before I was introduced to the superiority of single malts.  Can't say I have seen it around recently.
