Lamborgini only started making things other than tractors cause old man Ferrari told the boss of Lambo that he wasn't classy enough for one

I also thought that the "DB" in the Aston Martin models stood for David Brown because they originally made tractors. Or is that an urban legend?

Just started watching this and enjoying it very much. Kaleb is great and nobody outside Gerald's village (or maybe just his house) can understand a word he says  ;D. Clarkson who is worth £48M does have the advantage that when faced with a problem he can just throw money at it, not a solution available to the ordinary farmer in the UK.  At 1000 acres that is a big farm for a private owner in the UK.

Love the new avatar, Shiela  :emot_kiss:

£48M.  They should have given him a realistic budget, and then he might not have been spendy mcspend face on that Lamborghini tractor.  I didn't even know Lamborghini made tractors. But let's not get bogged down with that. Gerald is hilarious. Even when you can understand the words he's saying, you still have no idea what he's talking about.

Glad you like it love  :emot_kiss:

Surely that shop opening was staged - not that many would have turned up!

And a woo for the Boaty McBoatface reference. Didn't know that had escaped our parochial boundaries  ;D

According to Wiki, David Brown bought Aston Martin in 1947 and put AM under the David Brown Tractor Group, though I don't think Aston Martin itself ever built tractors.

Also interesting, AM started off as Bamford & Martin, and the 'Aston' comes from Aston Clinton in Buckinhamshire, where Bamford & Martin had success in hill climb events.

I’ve been watching a lot of the Holmes Inspection shows on DIY lately. I just love this big baldheaded Canadian saying stuff like “rip that whole wall out.” Or “ “We’re gonna have to dig the foundation 8 inches deeper.” Or “pull out all the wiring, this box isn’t code.” Seems like what I’d do if I had a lot money and no brains.

Finished watching Clarkson's farm on amazon prime. It really was entertaining, the whole way through, and even a little educational. I'm sure the critics will be out calling it a disaster, but I really enjoyed it, and my dad thought it an absolute riot. Gerald in the combine had me laughing so hard.

Readers of my irregular rants on this thread will be pleased to hear that I have discovered a worse film than Armageddon. Wrath Of The Titans is an unnecessary sequel to an unnecessary remake of the classic 1981 Clash Of The Titans. A truly terrible example of crash bang wallop action intentionally fast so that that it covers up the CGI defficiencies, never mind the abysmal script. How can Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes bring themselves to utter such drivel (well Neeson, maybe I can believe). Ray Harryhausen will be stop-motioning in his grave.

Just started to watch Sex/Life on Netflix. Didn't realise Shiela's BIG Ben had a starring part

Just finished all series of "The Man In The High Castle". I haven't mentioned it before so as not to invite spoilers. Popular opinion is that the 3rd and 4th season went seriously downhill. I haven't read the book but have now ordered it.

Any one else seen it?

I read the book, which I enjoyed, and I've had the series in my Queue for several years, but for whatever reason, I haven't started it yet. Perhaps this might serve as an impetus.

Meanwhile, I'm currently streaming "The Underground Railroad." I read that book, too, and I loved it. It's only vaguely "historical fiction," since there are strong elements of "magical realism" (and I'm not sure that's the right word), which make it even more fascinating.

The streaming series stands up to the novel, and it's utterly compelling. However, it's extremely brutal -- both physically, emotionally, and psychological -- and at the end of an episode I find myself exhausted. There was a scene in the first episode that was more brutal and more shockingly inhumane than anything I've ever seen before in a TV show or movie. It perfectly fits within the context of the series and its topic, but I had to wait about a week after watching that episode before I watched the second one.

Glad you mentioned The Underground Railroad (and the warning, Mrs ODK definitely wouldn't want to watch it). It's making its way towards the top of my to see list.  I never binge watch anything, usually a single episode a night with several days in between, two episodes a night is the maximum.  Can mean I can't remember what happened in earlier series though.

I'll admit that at one point I put my hands over my eyes and took little peeks until the scene was over.

But it's worth noting that it is 100% contextual, and 0% objectionable. In a way, and in context, it was "necessary."

There are 4 seasons?  Ugh  We are just finishing up the first season.  By far, the original novel in most cases is better then the movie.

Dr Death, which can be found on Peacock.  Based on a true story of an inept neurosurgeon in Dallas. Many of his patients that go in for a minor procedure on their spine end up paralyzed or dead.

Duntsch used cocaine and alcohol before he operated, performed unnecessary surgeries, abandoned at least one patient postoperatively, and refused to take a drug test when repeatedly asked to do so. Under his care, one patient died. Two of my friends brought the civil suits against him and the hospital. Baylor made $65,000 on each surgery he performed, and kicked back an additional $50,000 a month to Duntsch.  His license has been permanently suspended by the Texas Board of Medical Examiners.

Was it true that Rick Perry,  when he was governor,  capped the amount awarded in civil suits to $250,000 as was mentioned in the series?
