The Glass Onion on Netflix.

Been wanting to watch that. Perhaps I'll have it playing while i clean up this post holiday apocalypse of a kitchen. And plus, Daniel Craig and those eyes...  :emot_thdrool:

Also just watched Wednesday.  It was left open for a season 2 but also wrapped up nicely as a stand-alone mini-series if they decide to kill it.  It is a little Harry Potterish, but more grounded in horror, which I like.  Still no decision on if it will be renewed for season 2.  It is streaming on Netfix.

Another show I've been following is Avenue 5, with Hugh Laurie.  It's a comedy about an off-course space cruise ship.  Laurie plays the captain, but he's not really a captain.  He is an actor hired by the real captain who didn't want to deal with the passengers.  Everything quickly begins to unravel when the real captain gets killed in about the first 5 minutes.  It is extremely funny, if sometimes silly.  No word yet as to a season 3.  Season one and two are available on HBOMax.

A show I am also very excited about that has been renewed for season 4, is Love, Death, and Robots.  It also streams on Netflix.  Made up of short animated films, no longer than 22 minutes each, each film is by a different director, writer, or studio.  Each animation style is different and ranges in themes from Santa actually being a hideous monster that vomits up presents for good children to a farmer getting into a guerilla warfare battle with rats in his barn.  Some are creepy, some are funny. and some are downright heartbreaking.  I highly recommend it.

As ordered by PH on another thread I watched American Pie over the holiday; very funny. Jennifer Coolidge and Shannon Elizabeth - my ultimate fantasy threesome.

"So uh, 'shaved' is the expression?"  :aol_poundit:

From IMDb

"The film was originally rated NC-17 by the MPAA. It took three resubmissions to obtain an R-rating. A few scenes had to be edited or trimmed to achieve the rating...
The main reason for the MPAA's NC-17 decision was the infamous pie scene. In the original cut, Jim did four thrusts into the pastry - too many for an R. The filmmakers and the MPAA wound up settling on two thrusts."

What sort of twisted censorship mind distinguishes between the number of thrusts?

The same kind that allows the F-word to be spoken once in a PG-13 movie, but only once. If the word is used twice, the movie gets rated R.

There are some other considerations about drug usage, violence and brief nudity, but every PG-13 movie I've ever seen slips one FUCK in the dialogue at some point.

Whenever I watch a PG-13 movie, I make a game out of spotting the one time, and I remember a movie where I thought I had missed it somehow. It turned out to be in the closing credits where the cast was singing and Maureen McCormick (best known as Marcia Brady) had a short solo and sang the line "I'll bust your fuckin' head" (if you call her Marcia one more time or something like that).

A small excerpt from the MPAA rules for PG-13 ratings spells out the one F-word rule:

A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context.

The link fully explains all five ratings: G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17

The Fabelmans

It was good. It was long.  It was entertaining, but I wouldn't say it was the best movie I've watched in the past year. It was definitely worth the price of admission.

BUT....we no sooner got home and turned on the television.  Guess what was on.  The Golden Globes.  And The Fabelmans won best movie.  As I said, it was good, but not that good.

Popcorn was on point.  Frozen Coke was not wet enough, I had to keep pulling the straw up and push it back down the cup in just to get a sip.

I saw the Golden Globes last night, I had it was already on my list of movies I want to see. I will definitely try to see it before the Oscars. You can buy it on Amazon prime right now, but it’s something like $20.

Just watched the first (2) episodes of "Velma" on HBOmax. It's an adult animated origin story of Velma from Scooby-Doo.  Quite funny but the updated, more culturally diverse format takes a bit of getting used to.  Mindy Kaling stars and produces.  All in all not a bad iteration of the classic mystery-solving teens.  There is no mystery machine, other than in the name of a drug Daphne is selling, and no Scooby-Doo.  Those were the things that upset me when I first heard about the show.  Most people were crying over the fact that Velma was Asian.  Spoiler, Daphne and Velma hook up in the second episode, so yeah, it's pretty different.

Finally got around to watching Knives Out.  Excellent movie.  We're a few years behind but wanted to watch it before it goes to cable and the DVR accidentally records the last minute or two and it spoils it for us.  Next up is Glass Onion, hopefully this weekend.

Always close the program you're running before exiting the holodeck

I loved Knives Out but thought Glass Onion was a disappointment when I saw it a couple of days ago.

It was really good. I did enjoy it. By far, my favorite part was when he ruined the whole "fake death" game. Not as good as the first knives put, but I still really enjoyed it.

The Fablemans won a Golden Globe, so I bought it on Amazon Prime. Moving film. Interesting on so many different levels. I predict another Oscar for Spielberg.

And Michelle Williams. Incredible as Spielberg’s mom.

Ghislaine Maxwell, Filthy Rich playing in Netflix. A documentary detailing how she was accused and found guilty of procuring young women to soothe the sexual appetite of billionaire Jeffery Epstein.  She, of the rich and famous of England and Epstein thought because of their wealth and contacts, they would never be caught or tried.  Even Prince Harry was caught in having sex with a minor. His mother, Queen Elizabeth, stripped him of his title.

Prince Andrew you meant to say.

I think we will watch this when we get a chance.

Andrew hasn't been stripped of his title, but he has been removed from all royal duties and responsibilities. Latest news is that he is looking to overturn the Victoria Guiffre settlement.

Watching the CBS Sunday Morning show. One of the feature stories was about the great Carl Reiner. For you youngsters here, his story starts in the early 1950s.

He was the head writer on the Dick Van Dyke Show along with making several appearances on the show.
Another show that he was a major part of was The Sid Caesar Show.

His best friend and comedy partner was Mel Brooks. They stayed close until Reiner's death. The long running 2000 Year Old Man never failed to crack me up.

Their kind of humor has faded and makes me sad. It was all meant in fun. There was no mean spirited slams to get a cheap laugh.

I'll admit I had a tear on the corner of my eye when the piece was over.
