The last movie I watched was WarGames (1983), after seeing it mentioned on this board.

I suffer from PDS (Patience Deficiency Syndrome) and usually abandon movies, TV episodes, and documentaries around the 15 minute mark. I gave up on WarGames far later on, at the point where the kids meet Dr Falken. Later I went back and finished the movie, just to see more of Ally Sheedy.

Come to think of it, the last three movies I watched all the way through had strong female leads. She Kills (2016) was painful to watch, but I was intrigued by Jennie Russo. Firelight (1997) was a visual treat, with a stunning performance by Sophie Marceau.

I've given up on TV series and can’t remember the last one I watched.

We have something else in common...

I’ve tried to watch several movies this week, but can’t make it more than ten minutes into one before I just turn it off.  I can still watch documentaries, but not cinematic fiction.  I guess I am a cynical asshole finally.

The monster squad. It literally smells like the 80s.  :emot_laughing:

That used to be one of me and my cousins favorite movies to watch around Halloween.

"Wolfman has nards"  :emot_laughing:

Always one of my favorites. Never watch it until it gets close to Halloween either. And Goonies. Some movies don't feel right to watch at a certain time of year.

PDS (Patience Deficiency Syndrome)

I actually googled it wondering if it was real.   While it is not, I believe I suffer from it also and it should be a real condition.

In my case it's a very specific malady. I have no problem putting eight hours a day into a six-month project because the the short- and long-term satisfaction is worth it. Watching a sub-standard movie is 90 lost minutes leaving nothing but irritation and frustration. I do try to give film-makers a chance by ignoring the first few continuity goofs or clichéd lines but there's a limit to my patience/endurance.

Sadly, many movies are sub-standard. I am with purple shoes. If I can stay awake through the entire movie, then it is a pretty good movie.

You might as well tell them that Harry S Truman was president when we were born.

A friend once said: "You know you're getting old when you fall asleep at rock concerts." She said that when her husband dozed off at a Foreigner concert.

Yep, old Harry was in office when I was born. In 1948, the parents went to vote when he was up for reelection. I would have been not quite three. I must have heard the folks talking at home about the election. When they each went into the voting booths, I shouted out to them, "Vote for Dewey!"

My first campaign attempt an illegal act. Campaigning in a polling place.

Birds of prey, watched it on Amazon prime.  I'm not really fully into all those superhero movies, yet I've seen them all though because I watched them with whatever guy I'm with at the time, majority have been with Jake.  However, Captain Marvel I seen on my own, and Wonder Woman I went and saw with my Aunt Amy.  Didn't even really know about this one until recently. But if I had I would have watched it sooner.

I never thought of it that way, but you are right.   8)  I can see falling asleep watching a movie but falling asleep at a concert?

Not in the movie, but when I heard the title, I must admit that a certain bird of prey popped into my head  :emot_kiss:

Total laugh riot at our house tonight! :emot_laughing:

After a week of entertaining step son with action/adventure movies, we watched "The Birdcage". Step son groaned when the night's selection was announced. He ended up laughing just as hard as the old folks. ;D

Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as a gay couple, running Drag Show nightclub are so great together. Toss in a befuddled Gene Hackman and the powerhouse cast are all at the top of their game. Then too, they were directed by Mike Nichols.

I've seen the movie a few times, but I still laugh just as hard each time. It's a wonderful cure for these troubled days.

OMG!  I LOVED THAT MOVIE   I watched it by myself one night many years ago.  Then told my sister she has to watch it.  Ate the Blockbuster late return fee and brought the DVD over the next night to her house and we were cracking up so hard.   I'll have to see if Dan has seen it.  Might be a movie we'll be watching here in the near future.

Best movie ever.  I was so happy when it came out on amazon prime.  Watched it at least a dozen times and I'll have it going for background noise.

They wanted Robin Williams to play the over-the-top gay one who then dresses in drag.  But he said ‘been there done that’ (Mrs. Doubtfire), so that character went to Nathan Lane.

I couldn't possibly imagine it the other way.  They both played their role perfectly, and hank azaria cracks me up all the time.

Steve Martin was first cast to play Around opposite Robin Williams as "the wife". Martin had conflicts and dropped out
Williams then asked for that part.

Episode 2 of a World War I documentary. Reminded me how only the names have changed since then.

The names have been changed to protect the malicious

We just finished streaming "Away" on Netflix. It's a SciFi story about the first "manned" (personed?) expedition to Mars.  Three men and two women with a woman (Hillary Swank) as commander.

The show is more about relationships and emotions of being separated from loved ones than a special effects laden SciFi run of the mill show

They still work in tense moments when things go wrong and emergency repairs have to be cobbled together. Two very intense space walks, for those of you who like to be on the edge of your seat.

I found it a refreshing change from all the CGI heavy shows these days. Nice that acting gets to lead the way.

I liked it too, for the same reasons, but I was disappointed by the basic physics they got wrong.  Looking forward to season 2 anyways though.

Thanks for the reviews - it's on my 'to watch' list.

I think a sci-fi program without technical mistakes is as rare as hens' teeth.

Princess, would you like to see it light up and hum when I wave it about

Watching "I Am Bolt" right now.  A documentary on Usain Bolt.  Dan is a huge track and field fan, as am I.  I'm finding it interesting enough.
