Actually there is a lot to the story after the bang. Oppenheimer was accused of being a Communist in the McCarthy Era.

Hello Grand Portage, MN.
Back in the US.

We could not pick up any stations on the antenna in Canada.  Nothing.  No cable at any of the campgrounds either.   Haven't Seen a thing since before the 4th of July.

Long day of traveling and I don't even want to try scanning for stations.   Beddy bye in a couple.

Home on Monday afternoon ish.

You’ve probably already driven past Grand Marais Minnesota. That is where ex number one (the photo I looked “so young” in) was from. She graduated from high school in Duluth. I spent a lot of time up there. I still crave a Brandy Alexander from the Pickwick in Duluth from time to time.

I thought it was a brilliant film and the security enquiry interesting and very well done.  Unfortunately the film was ruined for Mrs Obi and I by the background music obscuring the dialog in many places plus that real bugbear of mine - actors speaking in breathless tones during emotional scenes, sometimes background music and sotto vocce at the same time.  Directors THIS IS NOT NECESSARY FOR EFFECT.  SOTTO VOCCE MAY MEAN NOT WANTING TO BE OVERHEARD BUT YOUR AUDIENCE WANTS TO HEAR. At one stage I turned to Mrs Obi and said, loud enough for others to hear, "can you turn the subtitles on please?"

American opera houses often show subtitles above the stage. I’ve often wondered why movie theaters don’t do the same. We have an aging population, and a lot of people (myself included) have difficulty hearing. That is why I usually wait to watch movies until they come out on Amazon.

Same here; re opera houses/movie theatres and Amazon, but I find sur-titles, as we call them, in opera houses to be distracting because they are usually above the stage.  I really wanted to see Oppenheimer on the big screen first though.  My house doesn't have walls big enough for those 60" plus TV screens  ;D

I have a 65” Amazon Fire TV (size matters). But a typical IMAX screen is 16 meters high by 22 meters wide (approximately 52 by 72 feet), but they can be much larger. The largest IMAX screen is 30 meters (98 feet) high. Can’t hold a candle to that. They said the IMAX print of Oppenheimer is almost 3 miles long. Barely fits on the projector.

I have to add it was a great performance all round by all the actors.  Quite forgot about Cillian Murphy/Peaky Blinders and didn't recognize Gary Oldman in his cameo.  Thought Robert Downey Jr. was very good as well.

Missed the water full Bob :(,  But we spent about 4 hours in Grand Marais.   Walked out to the lighthouse.  Sat there looking out at the lake.  Little ducklings following mom and dad came near until momma duck gave a quack and they all turned on the spot.  I forget the restaurant we visited.  Voyauguers perhaps.  Yeah, I spelled it wrong.  We ate appetizers and I ordered a flight of beer while Dan had wine.  Beautiful town.

Tonight we are seeing Indiana Jones (whatever sequel) tonight at the $5 movies.
Oppenheimer next week.  Maybe Barbie in a double feature.  Then back up to the cottage.
And we need to watch in the coming week the final Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime before we go back to the cottage mid next week.

Not a huge Indiana Jones fan, but it was good.   I missed going to the movies.  This 'up north' living cuts into some of my little joys in life, but it's worth the trade off.

The movies were packed.   Two theatres showing Barbie.  Oppenheimer was sold out.  Mission Impossible was sold out.  Elemental was sold out.  Sound of Freedom was sold out.   Indy Jones was half full.

We couldn't find a parking spot.  Dan dropped us off at the doors and he finally found a parking spot.  25 minute line for concessions.

No more evening showings for us on $5 Tuesday.  Early afternoon from now on.

Popcorn was spot on.  Missed it so much.  Rating: 5 stars
Frozen coke machine was overworked and a little to wet.  Rating: 2 stars
Indiana Jones.   Rating: 3-1/2 stars.   Special effects of making him look 40 years younger was amazing.  Storyline so-so.
Dan is a Indy fan though and gives it 4-1/2 stars.

I heard that Sound of Freedom is “sold out” because block seating purchased by various 4chan conspiracy nuts. Was the theater full?  The movie propagates a lie that Ukraine is a bunch of Nazis engaged in the human trafficking of children.

Watched 65 on Netflix over the weekend. Was OK. Not great but not bad. Only 1 and a half  hours so watchable.

Will start the second half of the Witcher probably tonite. Also saw that Twisted Metal should. E out on Peacock today so might have to at least watch the first episode of that. Heard they are only 30 minutes each

I watched Her (2013) last night. Now keep in mind that this movie was created 11 years ago. AI did not exist for consumers. Smart phones were just getting started. And here is a prophetic movie about AI apps that engage in online relationships with humans, and all the good bad and ugly that came from it. Very eerie to watch.

February 3 of this year, one of the biggest AI companies, Luka, banned erotic role play (ERP) on its Replika platform. You would have thought it was the end of the world. People were going bat shit crazy, threatening self harm, lawsuits, and having nervous breakdowns.

Which led me to form this conclusion: Nothing good will ever come from giving your most personal data, thoughts, feelings, and fantasies to a for-profit corporation.

We are only on the cusp of this. AI will continue to evolve and develop. And people will be sucked deeper and deeper into the machine. Because there’s a lot of needy people who cannot find healthy interaction with others. The trouble is, AI does not have a conscience, is not “truly” sentient, and does not understand or respect boundaries. It’s like that old Pogo cartoon, “We have seen the enemy. And he is us.“

Disney's Haunted Mansion. It was in theaters for one night so they can put it on streaming service right away. Was pretty good, had some parts in the end I didn't really care for, they just seemed to slow everything down and felt out of place, but otherwise it was decent, not going to subscribe to disney to see it again, but I feel I got my money's worth.

This is a really weird request.

I stream movies and TV shows simultaneously with my nephews in Chicago. Right now we're halfway through the second season of "The Lincoln Lawyer" (we watched the first season together).

We just finished Episode 5, and there's something about it that really bothers me, perhaps because I'm completely misunderstanding a key plot element.

If anyone has or is watching this, could you PM me (to avoid spoilers)?

Ha. Life is so funny. Here I am on a forum where literally anything can be openly discussed with no shame or judgement. Reading all your responses, I feel very self conscious to say I just binge watched the Breaking Bad series, the Better Call Saul series, and the El Camino movie thinking they were newish releases.

I guess, I've always been a late bloomer.

I sincerely hope I'm not surrounded by like-minded people right now. It would scare the shit out of me to be submerged in that kind of filth!!
