"Man Of Steel" - an interesting approach but far to much 'crash, bang wallop' and plot jumps.

I watched “John Wick 1” for the first time last night. Basically two hours of killing people. I would venture to guess there were 100 deaths, easily. Not my cup of tea.

Others seen on Netflix since the NBA finals are over…

Django
Fury
Caddyshack
Glory
Inglorious Bastards

My son and I were working on a list of the greatest war movies ever made. Made me want to watch some of them again.

Strangest one I watched? The Peanut Butter Falcon.  Did make me want to see Dakota Fanning naked.

Toe...Two that need to be on the top of your list. "The Longest Day".& "A Bridge Too Far". Both from the books by Cornelius Ryan. The author did extensive interviews with survivors so the books are based on what happened by the people who were there. Ryan just tied all his interviews into the books

The movies tho' condensed show a thumbnail sketch of the books. After seeing the movies I recommend reading the books. Most important was the "Longest Day". The account of the D-Day invasion as seen by the people who were there is historic and bone chilling. I remember tears running down my face in several places of the book.

Sorry I know you are looking for movies and I went off topic but those books are important. Here's a movie for me going off topic.
""Kelly's Heroes "  lots of laughs, if war can be funny.

I have seen both movies. And I think that “Saving Private Ryan“ incorporated elements from both. Certainly the bridge scene at the end of the film.

Have seen and enjoyed that one also.

Long time since I have seen them but I think I preferred "The Dirty Dozen"

Please don't forget Kubrick's "Paths Of Glory" in any list of great (anti-)war films.

"Dirty Dozen" wea another great one. Le Marvin was always a favorite of mine. Jim Brown 's run at the end reminded me of his football days.

Sweet Home Alabama. And I’m bawling like a baby. Because it makes me think about the small, redneck, one water tower town I grew up in. And how I feel like an alien whenever I return. And how, no matter how far away I have run, how many countries and exotic locales I have visited, how much fine wine and champagne I have quaffed, I’m still a small town boy inside. And I always will be.

You're fortunate to have a sense of identity. I was stateless until the age of sixteen, and dread being asked, "Where are you from?" It takes too long to answer, and I find most people lose interest halfway through.

I once told a Chinese lady about my stateless background. She said, "Me too. I was stateless until I was twenty," and produced an old alien registration card that she kept as a memento.

Blade Runner 2049.  I liked the original but maybe it's my age as I found 2049 slow, overlong, and portentous. Also somewhat obscure as I missed some of the points until I read reviews of it.

The Shape Of Water.  Profoundly different and not what I expected.  Weird but also lovely.

Going to see Oppenheimer tomorrow.
