And he gave us his talented son, Rob Reiner, who has done so many great things through the years, including Meathead on All in the Family.

It is a rainy Sunday, my mom and dad have already left town, with a passable goodbye, and my daughter and Mimi are in her room with her friends trying to hide the fact they are watching the "50 shades" series from me and my wife. IDC if they watch it, but I want them to understand that the subject matter is far from a normal relationship as possible and that it was written as a twilight fanfic jilling fodder for women, in the vein of the most extreme harlequin romance novels ever.

But me and my wife are in the middle of our anime watch list binge, and are watching the entire "Monogatari" series, which is pretty good, with a bit of perversion and mind fuckiness. The story is a high school boy gets tangled up with a vampire, then is almost turned human again and he has to deal with the "oddities" his friends are dealing with. I suggest it for those who want a bit of commentary on life and some supernatural hijinks.

Also for Shiela, me and wife watched the "Ginger Snaps" series, which is pretty good for a werewolf flick.

Sachertorte

Lovely, lovely film set in Vienna. Beautiful European romantic comedy, without the butt jokes that American films require. Loved it.

Definitely, Maybe (2008)

Ryan Reynolds and Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine). Incredible movie. So many layers. So many emotions. Wow. Incredible.

That 90s show on Netflix.

It was fun seeing all the cameos, but having grown up in the 90s in Wisconsin... men. Maybe I was expecting more nostalgia, but other than the Alanis Morissette song, I didnt see anything that gave me that feeling.

Griffin & Phoenix (2006)

I would have loved to have heard this movie pitched. “The guy with terminal lung cancer meets a woman with a secret… wait for it… she has terminal breast cancer. What a great idea! They fall in love knowing they are both about to die!”

Pretty sad film. But Amanda Peet is beautiful.

A Man Called Otto

Such an enjoyable film. We watched it yesterday    I read the book a couple of years ago, so my expectations were not that high, as they never are watching a movie after reading the book. The storyline is predictable, but that's beside the point.  The movie was just very well done. As I watched, I couldn't wait for the next flashback from Otto.
Take a Kleenex or two. Even Dan could have used one.

The funny thing about the theater experience was that we were the youngest people there.  Everybody was Florida retirees. I think they all could relate to Otto, and heard a few wives whisper to their husbands that they were guilty of having similar traits as Otto. E walking into the lobby afterward the patrons were all talking about how much they enjoyed the movie.

One of my favorite movies in the past year.

Shotgun Wedding

On Prime. JLo and Josh Duhamel.

I really plan to be bored and annoyed by this movie. And I would say the first hour did not disappoint. But then the plot twists came in, and the action (and comedy) significantly improved. It ended up being a very enjoyable little romcom.

I had watched the first episode of the new Night Court and wasn't that impressed with it so I found on freevee the original Night Court series and am enjoying the old series.

Wakanda Forever on Disney+

My Marvel loving husband and oldest daughter loved it. I enjoyed it, but Marvel and superhero films is really not my thing.

Rescued by Ruby, playing on Netflix.

Based on a true story about a Rhode Island State Trooper who took a rescued dog and trained her to become a member of the state's K-9 unit. From a dog that six households had adopted and returned, due to the dog's independence, to a dog that ended up saving the injured son of one of the shelter's workers.

Just watched the final episode of the "Happy Valley" trilogy on BBC.  Don't let the title mislead you.

I've been revisiting a variety of shows lately.  Many of them are older.

- M*A*S*H - Aired before my time, but DAMN, you'd never get away with it today.  Both lighthearted and serious at the same time.
- Millennium - A show by Chris Carter of X-Files fame.  This show is grittier than its predecessor and is very dark.
- Farscape - An amazing show made in the early 2000s by Hallmark, Jim Henson Productions and Studio 7 Australia.  This show is a great sci-fi show, with a good mix of individual episodes and main story ones.  It gets better over time as well.
- Home Movies - A show by the now defunct Soup2Nuts studio, also known for Dr. Katz at the time.  An adult-oriented cartoon framed from the perspective of kids making home movies and some of the terrible and not-so-terrible adults around them.
- Hell's Kitchen - If you don't know what this is, look it up.  It is standard reality TV trash, but I still enjoy it.
- Gold Rush - Ongoing series about plasser miners in the Yukon and Alaska.
- Restaurant Impossible - One of my favorite rennovation/improvement shows because it is very "real".  Yes it is still reality TV but it has real heart to it.
- Bering Sea Gold - people mining gold off the bottom of the Bering Sea in Nome, Alaska.

WHEW!

“Somebody I Used to Know” 2023.  A big meh. Bunch of 30-ish kids struggle with what love means.  Dave Franco wrote it with his wife, so I should have known was going to be melodramatic schlock. And it was.  Alison Brie tits on display, but not worth the viewing time.

Not sure how accessible UK ITV programmes are.  Just watched the final episode of the final series of "Endeavour", a prequel to the iconic "Morse" detective series. Very nice finale.

"A Cook's  Tour" 2001-2002 with Anthony Bourdain. I think this was his first show about food and travel.  Very raw and unvarnished. And, knowing now how his story ended, very poignant at times.  seeker83, he has an episode with a young British chef in one episode. Perhaps you've heard of him.? Gordon Ramsay.

We're getting that show on public TV over here. Not sure what series they're on. It's fun watching them moving the character of Morse along getting him closer to the wise, older detective he became.

I think it's also available on Amazon Prime
