Soundgarden's Chris Cornell Dead at 52

Chris Cornell, a dynamic vocalist and guitarist whose versatile showmanship as Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog's frontman was a signpost of the grunge era, died Wednesday night. Detroit police are investigating the death as a possible suicide, according to The Associated Press. He was 52.

Such sad news.
The news here, which every local station has been covering his passing, has not mentioned the word suicide at all.    I hope suicide is not the result.

Another great loss in the Hard Rock world, Chris will be missed. If it is a suicide it's very unfortunate that he died this way, because depression (if that's what caused it) is a very serious problem, that no one cares about and certain people think its a waste of time helping people who suffer from it. I also hope that drugs didn't cause it either.:-(

When I heard the news this morning I was devastated. Soundgarden along with Alice in Chains are my 2 favorite "Grunge" bands. Chris was an amazing singer and songwriter. I read that he was in great spirits after their show in Detroit last night but when they did "Slaves and Bulldozers" to close the show he inserted lyrics from Led Zeppelin's "In My Time Of Dying". Not sure if that meant anything as I also read he has done that before. And it appears now that official cause of death is Suicide by Hanging. So very sad!

My prayers go out to his wife and kids.

R.I.P Chris

According to the NY Times web site, the Medical Examiner just ruled it a suicide...

I read that Chris' Wife said that it's possible that he may have taken too much of a prescription medication to treat agoraphobia, called Lorazepam. I have a Family member that suffers from depression and agoraphobia, so I know all too well what too much of Lorazepam can do to a person, so if Lorazepam ends up being found in his toxicology report than we'll know for certain that the Lorazepam side effects caused him to unwillingly take his own life. Drugs to help battle depression is pretty serious stuff and not to be taken lightly.

I heard this on the news station on the ride home from work today.

Fans want to rent the hotel room that Chris Cornell died in.    The MGM Grand Detroit is keeping it off limits for now.

We have a tour company in Detroit called the 'Notorious 313 Sinister Tour' that shows the darker side of Detroit.  (Detroit is area code 313)   The company wants the Chris Cornell room as part of its tour.

Cornell died in Room 1136 of the MGM Detroit.   The number 1136 has been reported by the Michigan Lottery as the most bet 4 digit number over the past week.

Chris Cornell Laid to Rest at Private Los Angeles Funeral
Linkin Park's Chester Bennington sings "Hallelujah," Pearl Jam and Soundgarden members deliver eulogies at singer's memorial

Chris Cornell was laid to rest Friday at a private ceremony at Los Angeles' Hollywood Forever Cemetery, with Cornell's band mates, celebrity friends, family and grunge peers among those who paid their respects to the Soundgarden singer.

Metallica's James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, Pat Smear and Taylor Hawkins, Pharrell Williams, Krist Novoselic, Nile Rodgers, Courtney Love, Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro and Joe Walsh were among the rockers who attended the funeral, with actors like James Franco, Christian Bale and Brad Pitt also in attendance.

Linkin Park's Chester Bennington performed Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" at the memorial while actor James Brolin, Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament and Cornell's band mates Soundgarden's Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Audioslave's Tom Morello delivered eulogies, the Associated Press reports.

The private ceremony began with the cemetery's speakers playing Audioslave's "Like a Stone" as well as Cornell's recent solo song "The Promise." At the conclusion of the funeral, Temple of the Dog's "All Night Thing" accompanied mourners as they exited.

The last song Chris Cornell ever performed was about death

The last song Chris Cornell ever performed was about death.

Chris Cornell has tragically passed away aged 52, the same day he performed his final ever show with Soundgarden. Notably, they closed the gig with ‘Slaves & Bulldozers’, merged with a refrain of Led Zeppelin’s ‘In My Time of Dying’ – a gospel song also covered by Bob Dylan.

The singer was found dead May 17, shortly after playing Detroit’s Fox Theatre to a sold out crowd. The band performed classics including ‘Rusty Cage’ and ‘Fell on Black Days’ – watch fan-shot footage of the show and the final song below.

The group have covered ‘In My Time of Dying’ several times in their career, but its inclusion takes on a new poignancy in the light of Cornell’s sudden death, the cause of which is not yet known.

Soundgarden were due to continue their North American tour with shows at Ohio’s Rock on the Range and Maryland’s Pointfest 2017.

Stars from the music world – including Jimmy Page and Nile Rodgers – have paid tribute to the legendary musician. Page wrote: “RIP Chris Cornell. Incredibly Talented. Incredibly Young. Incredibly Missed.” The likes of Best Coast and Janes Addiction’s Dave Navarro also shared their sadness at the news.

It's best to keep the Room off limits as it pertains to someone's death, not to mention it was a crime scene with Police and EMTs brought in. People can be so disrespectful to the dead.
