Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus to end after 146 years

On May 21st, after a run of 146 years, Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus will give their last performance at the Nassau County Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

The reasons given are many:  declining attendance combined with high operating costs; changing public tastes; and prolonged battles with animal right groups.

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.

They blame the retirement of the elephants from the circus is one of the main reasons they have had to closed down.  People came to see elephants.  Ticket sale dropped dramatically when the elephants were gone.

Cirque du Soleil is a totally different type of Circus.  They also do not tour like Ringling does.

It's a shame.  But I blame Pokémon, not PETA.  The Circus was the "greatest show on Earth" for 146 years, but like the chariot races, time marches on.
