Started the
Liad Universe audiobooks, by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller, last week. I'm a couple hours into #4 -
Trade Secrets. It's always been one of my favorite scifi series.
I'm currently reading City of Glass by Cassandra Clare. Why the hell can't I find any fantasy fiction anymore that isn't targeted at 14-year-old girls?
I'd recommend the following, for non-14-year-old-girl, high-grit fantasy:
The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher (Urban fantasy, set mainly in Chicago)
Codex Alera, also by Jim Butcher (best described as Romans with Pokemon, according to tvtropes)
The Black Company series, by Glen Cook
Garrett PI, also by Glen Cook
The Malazan Book of the Fallen, by Steve Erikson
MythAdventures, by Robert Asprin (low-grit fantasy, as I recall)
Paksenarrion series, by Elizabeth Moon
The
Recluse series, by L E Modesitt, Jr
Of course, none of these are really new, and it occurs to me that you probably already know about them.
I could go on, but I need to get my ass moving for Michigan. Happy reading!
