Shit, Linda died in '98?!? Fuck, it doesn't seem like 5 minutes ago that I was mourning her passing.

The phrase time flies is so very true!

On this date in 1964, "Can't Buy Me Love" (with "You Can't Do That" as the B side) was released in the U.S. as a single - and was certified gold the same day after advance sales of 2.1 million.

Roughly 2 weeks later, The Beatles would make Billboard history by holding the top 5 spots in the charts.

"Can't Buy Me Love," "Twist and Shout," "She Loves You," "I Want To Hold Your Hand," and "Please Please Me" - the 5 songs that made history.

A feat never to be topped or equalled. Ever. No band will EVER be able to repeat or eclipse The Beatles.

On today's date in 1966, The Beatles were photographed by Robert Whitaker, and one of the photos wound up as the original "Butcher" cover for their album Yesterday and Today.

After advance copies were sent out, the reaction to the "Butcher" cover was so overwhelmingly negative that Capitol had the records recalled. However, tens of thousands of the new "Trunk" covers that were then sent out were simply the new album cover (with Paul in a trunk, leading to "Paul is Dead rumors) pasted over the "Butcher" cover - leading to tons of fans attempting to peel the new cover off to reveal the controversial one.

On this date: July 6th,1957, John Lennon and Paul McCartney met for the first time during a garden fete in Liverpool.

Shortly after their meeting, Paul joined John's band, The Quarrymen.

Paul talks about their first meeting:

"I just thought, ‘Well, he looks good, he’s singing well and he seems like a great lead singer to me.’ Of course, he had his glasses off, so he really looked suave. I remember John was good. He was really the only outstanding member, all the rest kind of slipped away."

Gia, I think that this month will be the 50th Anniversary of the release of the Beatles movie, Help.  To commemorate the occasion, the movie will be re-released in a better format.  Arghh, to think some of us here actually saw it at the movies when it was first released.

The Vietnam War tends to cloud up the 60's.
Good music, Bad war.

And there was ever a GOOD war?

Each generation has good music. What makes the radio is not always the best that there was to offer, it's what the masses liked. Masses does not always mean good, it means popular.

Pet rocks were popular, not good.

In the 1960s, most music was played on the AM stations.  With the advent of FM radio stations, some small radio stations began playing entire albums, rather then the one hit song the group or individual had. And they played it in stereo. Back then, the music sounded so much better then it did played in mono as most AM stations did, but when the DJ spoke, he sounded like he was in an echo chamber.  Those who loved music mainly kept their radios tuned into FM. One was considered hip if their car had an AM-FM radio.

Wolfman Jack was basically a West Coast DJ.  Dick Biondi was the big AM DJ in the 60s by us.
