My uncle Barry is a Beatles / McCartney nut!

He's sat and read through this whole thread agreeing with some points and disagreeing with others.

Personally, I love The Beatles.

I have all their albums on vinyl and on CD. The vinyl ones are in cellophane and have never been opened, and never will. The CD's have been played to death and back.

I have a book of all their songs specifically for the guitar - shame I can't play one. I bought it as a collectors item.

Gia, if you ever come to England, let me know and I'll take you to Liverpool to see the Cavern Club, The Beatles shop, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, 17 Portland Road (where McCartney lived as a child), "Mendips" (where Lennon grew up), and a few other places that The Beatles made famous.

Barry has an autograph signed by McCartney, he says you can have it, but you have to come to England to get it!

If that doesn't make you pack your bags and grab your passport nothing will!

That is QUITE a tempting offer! Hmmmmm.... I will have to think about it!

Sorry Boys You Failed The Audition by Ray Connolly

In the summer of 1962 the Beatles auditioned for producer George Martin at Parlophone Records. Having been rejected by every other record company, it was their last chance to get a recording contract. As the world soon found out, they passed the audition.
But what if they'd been turned down? Seen through the eyes of Freda, their teenage Liverpool fan club secretary, this is an affectionate comedy drama about what might have happened to the Beatles if George Martin had said, 'No'.

Producer/Director Gary Brown

Ray Connolly is a celebrated journalist and author. He is perhaps best known for writing the screenplays for the films 'That'll Be the Day' and the sequel 'Stardust' for which he won a Writers Guild of Great Britain best screenplay award, and for his many interviews with the Beatles. He was due to interview John Lennon on the day the ex-Beatle was murdered, an event he wrote about in the BBC radio play 'Unimaginable'. In addition to the biography John Lennon 1940-1980, he wrote the introduction to The Beatles Complete songbook.

CBS preps Beatles special

CBS will air a two-hour program about the Beatles, "The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles" that will feature contemporary artists performing Beatles tunes in addition to archival footage.

The special will air Feb. 9, the 50th anniversary of the band's appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show - 74 million people tuned in to watch the group perform five songs. (I was one of those 74 million people watching them)

The special will tape Jan. 27, the day after the Grammy Awards.

50 years ago tonight was the first time The Beatles were ever covered on American television. It was a story on NBC's The Huntley Brinkley Report, and it detailed the rise of the band in England that took them from "cellar nightclubs to National prominence." A few months later, Beatlemania hit America. The footage is forever lost, but the audio is below.

Cool!

We watched "Yellow Submarine" with our kids last Friday...
I had had a couple of Martinis (while DH stayed sober - one of us always does :) ) and enjoyed it immensely - the kids were NOT amused and very confused...

I should have baked brownies (j/k) - I think you have to be stoned to watch that movie for the first time to 'get' it  ;D

I guess we try to expose them to OUR version of important history ...

Having just become a teenager when the Beatles "invaded" the United States and living through the entire British Invasion plus, I have to admit that our resident Beatle expert, Gia, has shown me more history of the Beatles than I ever knew.  Again, I say that Gia would have fit in very nicely in the 60s.  8)
