I am an Army brat. I have an entire life experience in the military as a dependent.

Actual military experience is not part of my life I challenge you on whether that only  those in the military have any insight or can comment intelligently upon these items. Or do you not recognize that there are numerous civilian participants in  The Department of Defense, and the bridge. Including total civilian oversight of the military.

I  form a lot my opinion and draw a lot of my knowledge from my father, as in infantry office for many years.

So, you were the child of of someone in the military. So what?
I am aware of civilian involvement in the military. So what?
There are more idiots in Washington, The Dept. of Defense, the Pentagon, and military than not. Most of them are not nearly as aware of the strategic and tactical awareness in war as the solder fighting and dying for them. They're simply numbers and statistics thrown against an enemy hoping for a successful outcome. Before you bring it up, I'm also aware the President is the Commander and Chief of the military. I smart!

Thank your father for his service.

The idea that only those who are in the military understand tactics and strategy is false. You can understand all the mechanics of tactics and strategy without ever wearing the uniform.  Emotional values of being in uniform are not easily duplicated elsewhere. But I can run the supply room, I can probably maneuver a squad, platoon or even a company as well as most movies.

I do understand the intricate interplay of tactics Logistics and strategy. As the daughter of infantry officer who took great delight in my interest in his profession, I think I got a fairly good military education without having served.

I just hope that Trump does not embarrass the United States with his behavior.

I hope Trump realizes the mistakes he made during his campaign and takes those lessons with him into his new job as President.

I also hope Trump does not try to use nuclear weapons for reasons his chiefs of staff find unjustified.

I hope Trump does not try to replace everyone with "yes" men.  I hope he respects those who tell it to him straight.

I do hope that Trump focuses future trade agreements on fair trade, and not free trade.

I hope he respects, and works for, all Americans.

I believe he will respect and work for all Americans.    He is far more center than people give him credit for.

As for the 'YES men' comment.   This is my biggest fear.   I had watched Apprentice when it was on.   He expected people to agree with him, and if they didn't they were on the sh*# list.     Guilliano, Gingretch, Christy.   I can't see them being Yes men.

I believe the Chief of Staff selection will make or break these next 4 years.

I believe a balance has to be arrived between free and fair trade. We cannot allow our economics to be destroyed, and can still be sympathetic to less developed countrys. The Chinese particularly attempt to take disastrous advantage of our trade agreements, flooding our market with inferior products with impunity.
==================================================================
Often the terms “free trade” and “fair trade” are used interchangeably. However, they mean two completely different things. “Free trade” means unrestricted, uncontrolled access to our economy, tariff- and duty-free, for goods made for $4-per-hour or less. We cannot compete with these wages so we are forced to choose between going bankrupt, outsourcing nearly all of our manufacturing or simply selling out.

The U.S. is the largest consumer market in the world. Opening our doors to “free trade” agreements has resulted in job losses, enormous trade deficits and the extinction of many valuable U.S. businesses. Our “free trade” practices are harmful and no longer beneficial, but what about fair trade? What are the benefits of fair trade over free trade?

Fair trade would be more beneficial than damaging “free trade”  because “free trade” emphasizes the reduction in barriers between countries and the elimination of preferential policies that favor countries or specific industries.

“Free trade” also calls for the opening up of all international markets, regardless of a nation’s stage in development, theoretically making all nations equal economic competitors, susceptible to the same periods of prosperity and struggle. Many “free trade” supporters advocate the elimination of tariffs and subsidies, and oppose regulations that force companies to pay extra for doing business in foreign markets.

As a result, “free trade” has led to the largest transfer of wealth in the entire world. Trillions of American dollars have been lost due to the absence of tariffs, resulting in the alarming trade deficits we have today. Tariff-free imports are one of the largest downsides to “free trade.” In addition, the absence of tariffs tends to favor the country with lower wage-rates. This results in the lower wage-rate country enjoying a transfer of production benefits from the higher wage-rate country.

The Charter of Fair Trade Principles explains fair trade as:

“…a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers. Fair Trade Organizations, backed by consumers, are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of conventional international trade.”

Fair trade differs from “free trade” because it focuses on the wages and working conditions of labor in developing markets where wages and working conditions are otherwise poor compared to their more developed counterparts. After all, it is not uncommon for corporations to outsource their operations to less developed areas where they can get away with paying their workers menial wages instead of having to pay workers more in the U.S. for the same job. This exploits workers in foreign lands while at the same time taking away jobs from the U.S.

While much attention is directed towards smaller, undeveloped nations as the victims of “free trade,” so too have our leaders allowed the U.S. to suffer under dangerous trade agreements like NAFTA, KORUS, and the WTO. Now is the time to consider “fair trade” practices, to help mend the  disaster of “free trade” that has largely contributed to our economic decline.

Attention Legislators: Why Do We Need to Be in the WTO?
September 27, 2016   Thomas Heffner
no wto

Membership in the WTO is of no benefit to us—it actually does us great harm! It has damaged our economy and caused us to forfeit our sovereignty. The WTO now controls us, causing us to have no control over our own affairs. By signing the agreement with the World Trade Organization, the U.S. Congress agreed to concede a major portion of our sovereignty and usurp our democratic legislative process, including:

Conforming U.S. laws, regulations and administrative procedures to the will of the WTO (Article XVI, p. 10)
Subjecting all federal, state and local laws and practices that affect trade to international review by the WTO (Article XVI, p. 10)
Allowing any WTO member country to challenge federal, state and local laws and practices as trade impeding (Section 2 of the Dispute Settlement Understanding)
Taking all trade disputes to the WTO judiciary – giving the WTO final jurisdiction over all trade altercations. No appeal exists outside of the WTO (Section 2 of the Dispute Settlement Understanding)
Empowering the WTO to enforce its rulings by imposing fines on the United States until we comply
Disallowing Congress to change the agreement

Our present condition is a result of much that the WTO does to us. For example, the WTO ruled against a U.S. ban on chicken products from China.

Even though the U.S. ban was instituted according to U.S. laws and regulations, the WTO said that U.S. ban on chicken exports from China was not in accordance with its rules and regulations. This means even if a product does not meet our food safety standards, if it impedes trade the WTO forces us to allow these products into our markets.

We must get out of the WTO in order to protect our nation and our economy from foreign interests who do not have our best interests in mind.

I just hope that Trump does not embarrass the United States with his behavior.

That particular ship has sailed.

I guess I should have prefaced that with a "does not embarrass us FURTHER ....

And I agree with SenTrav regarding fair trade.  Every country has a sector of their economy essential to the prosperity of their people, it needs to be protected.  I'm not sure I agree with him regarding the WTO.  While he makes a good point, I've not studied that matter enough to know if he has the whole story.

Back to Trump:

I am very concerned that Trump's victory seems to have emboldened the bully racists among his supporters.  The stories about attacks on people by them are making me sick. If I witnessed such hatred I would intervene even if it meant coming to harm myself.

I think we also need to remember that Trump lost the Popular vote.  While the electoral college makes him legitimate, he has no mandate from the People.

Stock market was up over 200 points at the end of the next days trading.  I tend to believe the drop of over 600 points was deliberately meant to coincide to Hillarys low Electorial numbers coming in. Question: I know little about how the stock market works, but since the results of the election really didn't begin realistically begin coming in until after around 7:00 PM, wasn't the US stock market closed by then, and where did these numbers come from? Was there some indication Trump would win and they were simply hedging the numbers?

Stock markets react when someone farts. Actually, Japanese markets took a plunge during the night and the NYSE followed.  Then sanity prevailed, least for the NYSE, and the market ended on an up note.  Still, Wall Street and many others do not know what Trump will do but guessing since Trump is a Republican, he will try to ease up on regulations for corporations and such, which may make for some nice gains in the stock market.

I agree totally Julie. I think either Ben Carson or Allen West would be excellent candidates for Chief of Staff. Both have excellent character references beyond reproach and unafraid to speak for themselves.

I'm loving these crazy idiots protesting on tv. Clueless, disrespectful foul mouthed spoiled brats. More spankings, less thumb sucking and coddling of these brats.

I agree. It makes me wonder what they are protesting. That our democratic process was carried out exactly as it was designed, and as it has been carried out for over 200 years? That there was a smooth, legal, and democratic transition of power? That the Constitution was followed to the letter?

I was speaking with my niece earlier today.    Some Western Michigan University professors have decided to postpone tests for the remainder of the week, and any assignments due this week are now due on Monday.   It seems the kids are too depressed and they need time to recover from the shock.
